Hopefully AI already has a good idea since I'm sure other operators fly a 773 to BOM (SQ?). I dread a repeat of PK's woes (when they got their 772LRs) with AI.
Regarding AF's flights to MAA - that's a new service, not really an EQV. The BOM service also seems like a reduction - don't AF currently operate a 744 to BOM? What's going on with BOM?
Air France operate the A340 and the 777 to BOM... not the 744. mostly they have the 777-200s to BOM as per their circular given to other airlines.... for a period upto August or Oct... (not sure) they will operate the A340s.... following which the 777s will be put back into service on the route
The change in EQP for LH is due to the fleet rotation due to recent compulsions.
yes there is a huge reduction in capacity.
BOM normally gets the 744s with the following capacities
16/64/310 ---- usually during the peak season from OCT/NOV to FEB/MAR 16/78/274--- the next most common version 16/99/234---- when we have high C class loads
the 16/80/234 version with the new business class product recently visited BOM and for the first time ever too earlier this month....
Thanks for the clarification on the AirFrance Equipment - I'd assumed they would be flying their 744s to India.
I'm really looking forward to the LH 346 in BLR this winter season - with the new J product! Finally an upgrade will be real fun (their current J class product is not too great). Do you know how are LH's loads to BLR this season? I suspect they're not doing as well as earlier, since now I can get confirmations for BLR-FRA-BLR almost instantly, but face long delays in getting confirmations for FRA-SFO-FRA!
the_380 wrote: btw which aircraft does Virgin bring to BOM and DEL? Is it B747 or A340?
It's 343 to both cities, though there are often substitutions with a 346 (when loads are running very high). I have a trip report on A.net with a 343 and a 346 (to/from DEL)
VS is better from the perspective of being able to earn miles (almost impossible to earn miles on Economy with BA).
Otherwise not much different - both have PTVs, serve food and booze etc. BA offers a 747, while VS offers a 343. Given a choice, I would choose the 343/346 any day.
As far as i know VS have completely stopped the A346 to BOM... dont recollect having ever seen it in the not too distant past.... the current equipment is the A340-300... the A346 is a bit too uncomfortable for BOMs space availability and if operated will almost certainly be put onto remote bay parkings making it a mess to transport passengers.. besides the A346 is too much for the loads VS is currently experiencing since launch.
One thing you might want to keep in mind is the VERY LIGHT loads on VS and BD as compared to BA (both BA flights)... dont be surprised if you fly VS and BD and have an entire row... and in some cases maybe just 100 odd other passengers for company on the entire aircraft. Off and on though they do get decent loads but they seem to be still developing their customer base in BOM/India. BD seems to do a bit better than VS
as regards the loads in BLR... i could get you the figures... though not specifics but a general look on the loads... BLR does pretty ok though..

Any figures would be really nice - don't need the full details, but a general idea will be appreciated
CHENNAI: Delta Airlines, which began its daily Boeing-767 service to New York through Paris from Chennai on May 11 last year, will sever its Chennai connection from November 1.
Airline and airport sources told The Hindu that the U.S. carrier had announced scaling down of its Chennai operation with a tri-weekly link effective August 5 till October 27. Air France was marketing the Delta Airlines product under a code-share arrangement for the Chennai-Paris-Chennai sector.
Against this backdrop, it is interesting that Air France has announced introduction of its direct thrice-a-week Airbus-340 operations to Paris Charles de Gaulle airport from October 30, offering 30 business and 261 economy class seats, fulfilling the long-felt demand of travellers in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.
But with Air France announcing its Chennai link, Delta Airlines would code-share with Air France the Chennai-Paris-Chennai sector. Air France's presence in India will increase: it already operates daily services to Mumbai and Delhi, offering five-times-a-week link to Bangalore. It is set to augment it as daily connection from November this year.
According to sources, the airline will, however, operate the new Boeing-777-200 jet aircraft between Mumbai and New York City.
