Of aircraft & space and more... BITM, in collaboration with the Aeronautical Society of India, is organising an exhibition on Space and Aviation from December 13 to 16 Express News Service

Kolkata, December 4: With the aviation industry witnessing an unprecedented boom in recent times more and more youngsters are keen to join the line. Post-Independence, the aviation industry has seen the emergence of various new aircraft, missiles and satellite systems. There is an increased demand among the general masses to know about the different systems incorporated in the industry.

To increase the knowledge of students and the inquisitive masses in this regard the Birla Industrial and Technological Museum (BITM), in collaboration with the Aeronautical Society of India, is organising an exhibition on Space and Aviation from December 13 to 16 for students and visitors.

Jayanta Sthanapati, director of BITM, said: “There is a boom in the aviation industry and youngsters are keen to learn about all the opportunities available in the industry. All institutes specialising in aviation and space have invented different aircraft or machines that can be used in space. This exhibition will showcase all that and more.”

The exhibition will be open from 11 am to 4 pm.

Various institutes, including the Indian Space Research Organisation, Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, Air India, Defence Academy, Indian Meteorological Department, Airports Authority of India and Indian Institute of Aeronautical Science, will be participating in the exhibition. Models and replicas of different fighter planes, jet propulsion engine, aircraft and missiles will ne exhibited.

“Not many are aware how the traffic in the air is controlled. For instance, when two aircraft are flying in the air simultaneously it is quite difficult to discern their timings. In the exhibition we will show the students how the traffic is controlled to avoid congestions and accidents in the air,” said Sthanapati.

The director said that the entry to the exhibition will be free and this is an opportunity for students to interact directly with professionals from the industry. Students can also attend career counselling sessions on aviation.

“One interesting segment in the exhibition will be a demonstration by the Indian Navy on how fighter planes take off from the decks of ships. There will be more related to the air force, civil aviation and everything new in the world of aviation. But before the exhibition starts we are going to organise a quiz contest on aviation on December 8 for school students,” the director said.
