Sri Lanka considers a new airline Saturday, December 9, 2006

Sri Lanka's Ministries of Finance, Ports and Aviation Services will jointly put forward a Cabinet paper to set up a new airline for Sri Lanka.
The Cabinet paper will propose the setting up of Mihin Lanka airline, following the name of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, as a fully government-owned enterprise. It is expected to have a wide body fleet of aircraft.
Meanwhile, the agreement between SriLankan Airlines and the Emirates is to be terminated by 20 March, 2008, but the government hopes to extend it, sources said.
