The first flight was operated by a De Havilland Puss Moth VT-ADN flown by Mr. J R D Tata from Karachi to Bombay and by Mr. Nevill Vintcent from Bombay to Madras on October 15th 1932. The first service arrived at Madras on October 16 and the first west-bound flight left Madras on October 17.
Air India rang in its Platinum Jubilee celebrations with a laser show and fireworks at its headquarters at Nariman Point on Sunday. Seventy-five years ago, on October 15, 1932, JRD Tata flew a tiny single-engine de Havilland Puss Moth from Karachi to Mumbai via Ahemdabad. Then called Tata Airlines, the carrier was re-christened Air India and converted into a public limited company in August 1946.
