NEW DELHI (XFN-ASIA) - European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has agreed to pay Kingfisher Airlines over one bln rupees (22 mln usd) for a delay in delivering five A380 superjumbo aircraft, the Economic Times reported.
The airline, which is owned by the UB group, ordered the aircraft last year.
'Airbus has communicated that they are postponing deliveries of the aircraft and the first aircraft will now be delivered only by 2011,' UB group chairman Vijay Mallya was quoted as saying.
It is unclear whether the compensation to Kingfisher for the A380s would be in the form of discounts or payment, the report said.
Airbus announced this week a one-year delay in the project, its third such announcement.
Kingfisher placed orders at the Paris airshow last year , signing up for 15 planes -- five A380s, five A350s and five A330s in a deal estimated to be worth about 3 bln usd.
He is indeed lucky on this account. Not only does he get compensation, but witht the further delay he now wont have to worry about what to do with the planes before he is allowed to fly international.
Cheers

But Mallya was quite optimistic in getting his aircrafts on time as it is it won't make much difference as he will operate the A345s till the A380s come.
So its a bonanza for him.

calculation seems to be weird when other airlines have shaken Airbus by their compensation demands Mallya's compensation seems only to be 19.8 crore Rs per aircraft.
Quite less compared to SQ, QF and EK
by the way for those who haven't seen here are some photoshop pictures of IT's future aircrafts
Well you cant expect Mallya to getas much compensation/plane as compared to SQ,EK or QF, he has ordered far fewer planes than them. Not the VJM needs the money, he'll prolly use them as a discount on other a/c.
Cheers
