Understandable, but no heed seems to have been paid to my post concerning how i shall not post any more for sale threads. Anyways that is beside the point:
Being a lawyer i need to ask :
1. Are there any rules of airlinersindia?
2. If there are, where are they?
3. Do they specifically state that any commercial activity is prohibited?
4. While signing up, there was no terms of use, etc ,etc ,etc you think we should add something?
I dont mean to be a prick... just some pertinent questions which can limit further such incidents. I have already mentioned that i will NOT post any commercial threads in the future. But i would like to ask if i was selling a part of my own personal collection.. is it against rules to post a thread about it? Airliners.net allows such posts.
i would like to stress again that i am merely trying to ask questions.. and not at all challenge the decisions of the mods.
as we all know that this thread is in an evolving situation and we are not in a position to set formal "Terms of Use". But as we all know that the basic idea behind discussions is Civil Aviation, and India's in particular.
There are however some general Posting Guidelines provided by the Activeborad. They are also subject to amendments. Agreed they do not say anything about selling or any other commercial activity, but we all understand that the idea behind the forum is healthy discussion, and not anything else.
In my humble opinion, queries regarding sale/commercial activity can be address between the members through exchange of email. The forum has brought together diverse bunch of people, and they are free to communicate amongst themselves independent of others.
A discussion about this issue is highly recommended.
Yes aseem... a discussiong would be a good idea. we have to look at this site from a broader perspective. Lets not narrow our scope. I would suggest that a mere post saying that a,b,c is available for sale should be allowed... HOWEVER, any discussion whatsoever about that purchase should be done privately and NOT posted online.
This is just a suggestion. I still feel that if we are limiting our scope to merely discussion, then why have the aviation hobby forum. I dont mean that we use it only to SELL things... but post pictures, show off your collection (as we all like to do), etc.
Nitin - I disagree - if there's items to post, then there must be discussions as well. You can't really have your cake and eat it too.
All ecommerce sites typically have an associated feedback/discussion forum - as you're very well aware.
As to whether we allow/disallow commercial activity on this site - I have mixed feelings. On the one hand if the commercial activity is to do with Aviation - why not? But then you have the chance that people will start to hawk fake tickets, stolen stuff etc. Which then puts the site at the risk of getting dragged into the mess.
What's probably OK might be a sub-forum to advertise listings a member has made on another e-commerce site. Like say a member has an upgrade voucer for sale. He first lists it on ebay - he can then post a link to the ebay page here in a specific forum. No associated text or selling or discussion. Not even the price mentioned here. All that happens via ebay.
Well - this is just one option I thought of while typing the message!
Thinking further - similar to this free site (well - the basic version was free), there might be other free sites for hosting classifieds, or stuff for sale. Maybe we can have someone look into that option, and create a dedicated site just for that. Or maybe we can do that on active board itself - just a different site. Only interested buyers/sellers would register there, though we can link to that site from this one.
quite frankly... i agree with Aseem... its best to leave unpleasantness out of this place..
and where there's money involved and no foolproof way to safeguard all interests... then its better to leave such transactions to the specialised sites of ebay etc...
Imagine a sight, wherein we have aviation stalwarts here and we still network and search for some of the aviation items, which we would like to possess.
I think, please do not view or relate non deliverance of a particular product till date as a bench mark but just a service issue and as some great men had said.....the show must carry on.
