Any DC3s(Dakotas) active in India?
Permalink Closed

Are there any DC3 still in active service in India?

10-12 years back, a lot of them could be seen at BOM and DEL. It was a common sight to see them in flight too. I have not sighted them for a very long time now. Really miss the drone of the piston engines.

There was one at the Chennai airport, parked near what used to be the Coast Guard station and then the dumping ground for the NEPC Airlines F27s. Have seen one at the Coimbatore airport also.

Talk about those engines/engine sound. WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.

I saw VT-AUT with it's wings chopped off at DEL in August 2005. It was in a great condition upto 1997 and be seen parked at the domestic apron.

The Airforce still uses a lot of them, fly into either Hyderabad or baroda, you'll usually end up seeing at least one of them taking off. Lovely birds.

the color scheme of the Dakota above looks rather like the color scheme of an indian airlines DC3 i saw in a photograph once. Was this an ex-IC piece?
