JNB?? why would they do that! Anyway good to hear that they've overcome that LHR mentality.

Hey Bom23 - how reliable is this information?
I thought their first target was to be the India - US West coast market - I've never heard IT mention JNB before this post!
Mallaya's kids are American Citizens, so they can startup an overseas company as either a JV or a fully independant company with royalty and fly backwards as in from US to India instead of the other way around.
All these rules apply if you ask for DGCA clearance, which thankfully in this case would not apply
9W just finished their interview rounds for the 330 F/o and Captains, the only problem is that they're offering a pittance of a salary, and saying "Well you're getting to fly a wide-body" which is like "OH WOW! Thank you so much, but i think i can do that anywhere else".
Why is 9W such a hoity toity suck up place? I kind of have never had a good experience with them ever, do they treat their employees well? (off topic)
This information comes from a senior person in IT. Atleast thats the plan. I will not be too surprised if they actually do commence the JNB/BOM/SIN routing (with the first 332) considering the high loads on JNB routes from BOM on South African and KQ.
LHR and the US routes have also been planned but after the delivery of 345's.
As for the 3 year rule....they clearly expect changes to be made....with VJM, you can never be sure how this will be "managed".

According to a press release by Airbus Mallya said that 345s shall be deployed only in the US routes non stop.
But i still have rather lot of confusion about IT starting intl ops because Mallya already had said the govt to "re-consider" (CNN-IBN) their policy on permitting carriers to fly intl but the govt responded negatively.
The fact about his kids being US citizens brings some sense maybe thats the whole idea to set up a subsidary in the US or something and that carrier might operate this flight or something
Someone please help me here

Visualise this TV News cast, Mallyas fleet of A330/A345 sitting at some god forsaken airport in India. IT employees getting their termination letter, their families crying, AI/IA pax at DEL and BOM on a Tue waiting for their last Friday-night delayed flt to NYC or LAX with crying babies and worried parents not knowing the status (terminated ?) of their jobs they had to resume on yesterday (Monday).
Nah, the bloke will pay his way to USA, his biggest competitor 9W has already lost Rs500cr in the S2 fiasco and can't afford any more money to grease the MoCA to ward IT off.

True VM has his cloud but just wondering is it so easy to let an airline set up a subsidary in US and start operating flights from US to other corners of the world. Becoz few of the ppl in airliners were apprehensive that DOT wud give permission so easily..
Though wet leasing of IT planes by some other carrier who has the neccessary approvals in place and let it run for KF looks more viable option.

Everyone knows he's ready to pay for that but how has he made it possible?
Have his kids set up some enterprise in the US? Or has he managed to get the govt to permit him to fly due to some exception case (???)
As i mentioned he already tried telling the govt to review their policy in letting airlines flying intl which the govt bluntly denied. Initially it was rumoured that Kingfisher was to take over MaxJet which even MaxJet denied such a news then came a valid news that he might lease his aircraft.
But all of a sudden a news springs in that IT wud fly intl but my question in how did he manage that

Kingfisher to operate new flight between Hyderabad-Vijayawada
Vijayawada, Sep 25 (UNI)
The Kingfisher airlines would launch a daily flight between Hyderabad and Vijayawada from today. Talking to UNI over phone from Bangalore, the airline official said the new flight would formally be inaugurated this afternoon at Hyderabad and Vijayawada simultaneously, an hour before its departure. The ATR aircraft flight IT-2831, except on Tuesday, having 66-seater capacity, would leave Hyderabad at 1520 hours and arrive in Gannavaram airport at 1615 hours. In the return direction, it will leave from Gannavaram airport at 1645 hours and arrive in Hyderabad at 1740 hours. On Tuesday, the flight will leave Hyderabad at 1555 hours and reach Gannavaram at 1650 hours. In the return direction, it will leave Gannavaram at 1715 hours and reach Hyderabad at 1810 hours. The fare charged by the airlines would be higher than the Air Deccan’ charges for the same destinations. There was no plan at present to operate its flights to the remaining cities in the State. This is the first ATR aircraft operating in Andhra Pradesh, the official added.
How is the IFE on those aircrafts any info any one?
And where are their ATRs currently operated and how many?
Dude - they've been flying ATRs for a few months now - and were the launch customers for IFE on ATRs. THey operate regional routes - like BLR-MAA, BLR-IXE etc. Not sure about the rest of their route structure.

Easier said than done look at the trouble Branson is having setting up his Virgin America.

BANGALORE: Vijay Mallya-promoted Kingfisher Airlines may be able to fly international routes from India by mid-2008 with the civil aviation ministry considering relaxing the eligibility norm for allowing Indian carriers to operate on overseas sectors.
A source close to the ministry said talks on the issue were moving in the right direction and the current five-year flying experience criteria for a carrier to operate international flights may be brought down to three years.
A Kingfisher spokesperson said, “Yes, talks with government are positive. We may be able to start international operations on our own by the middle of 2008. We will complete three years of operations in May, 2008.”
If the government revises the eligibility norm, it would fit Kingfisher’s design of flying overseas by 2008, when it takes delivery of its first wide-bodied aircraft - A340-500. The airline plans to deploy the aircraft on the Bangalore-San Francisco and Mumbai-New York sectors.
It would also be taking delivery of A330-200 during the same time, which will be put on Mumbai-London and Mumbai-Hong Kong routes.
These new generation aircraft will be configured in three classes - super first class, ultra business class and Kingfisher class (economy).
The carrier has not abandoned its backup plan, though. Having registered a company - Kingfisher International - in the US, it is talking to four American carriers for a strategic partnership to begin its international operations out of US, in case the government backtracks on its commitment to ease rules.
