The city was considered potentially stronger, keeping in view its rapid growth, especially in the Information Technology sector. The airlines had opened its office and appointed 30 personnel to cater to the needs of the local people, he added.

He said the new route promised to open up a world of opportunities for Banglaore’s key industries such as IT, Biotechnology and Tourism as Emirates linked the city to 13,14 and 20 new gateways in the Middle East, Africa and Europe respectively.

This is really much awaited at BLR, since it will suddenly open up capacity by an order of magnitude.

I've never flown EK before, but I sure hope they do well on this route.

This winter will see a good expansion at BLR - with LH upgrading from 343 to 744, and with EK starting 8X pw 332/772 flights.

I think the only thing really remaining is to get SQ to make their flight a daily (maybe have MI fly the remaining 2 days if SQ is short of a/c?).

MH, AI will continue to be fringe players at BLR due to their lack of frequencies.

Yeah Emirates is the one big player that has been missing from Blore skies for some time! Its going to be a big capacity jumb but we could always use more Mideast capacity with Air India's strechted thin like butter and Gulf Airs meager A320 service.

PS anyone interested in a Blore/India Airliners Meet in Dec?  Preferablly Dec 15-21 or maybe End of Nov!!!?

Why ever not - how about fixing up a date - say November 25th? Or December 16th? (Both Saturdays).

Bangalore, Sep 19 (UNI)

Emirates Airline today unveiled exciting holiday packages to four exotic European destinations for the city’s travellers, ahead of its eight-flights-a-week service to the city.

The holiday packages, ranging from Rs 32,441 to Rs 55,546 to Cyprus, Athens, London and Munich, were based per person in twin sharing and included economy class airfare, accommodation with room tax and sevice charges in premium hotels such as the Hilton Athens, Le Meridien Munich, Norfolk Plaza hotel in London and International Aphrodite Hills Hotel, an airline release here said.

Emirates Holidays, the airline’s tour operating division, would also offer the city’s travellers a special bonaza, whereby those booking packages between today and November 30 could particpate in a draw to win a complimentary holiday for two to Dubai, it said.

More details from Emirates website:

Emirates, one of the leading Middle East airlines, has been permitted by the Indian government to operate eight direct flights a week from Bangalore to Dubai and vice-versa.

Beginning September 29, Emirates will operate a daily flight in both directions from Monday to Saturday and an additional flight Wednesdays and Fridays in a week. There will be no service on Sundays.

"Bangalore will be our eighth destination in India to operate and fifth in the southern region, with Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata being other destinations.

We will be operating Airbus 300-200 and Boeing 777-200, with a seat capacity of 237 seats in each aircraft under three classes -- first, business/club and economy class," Emirates sales head in Karnataka Pradeep Suvarna said here.

With attractive introductory fares in the first month of launching the service, Emirates hopes to achieve a passenger load factor of 80-90 percent to Dubai and onward destinations in Europe, North America and Africa. The two-way fares range from Rs 14,000 for economy class and Rs 27,000 for business class to Rs 32,000 for the first class.

The additional eight flights from here will take the total number of flights to and for India to 71 from 63 a week, with Mumbai having the major share (19 flights), followed by Chennai, Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram (eight each), seven from Delhi and Kochi and six from Kolkata.
