SilkAir plans to operate from Coimbatore August 30, 2006 (UNI)
SilkAir, a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, is planning to operate from the Coimbatore airport, considering the huge outflow of passengers from this region to nations like China and Singapore for textile-related business activities.
Passenger traffic to Southeast Asian countries has gained momentum apart from Indian tourists from importers of textile machinery and placing orders for spindles.
On a feasibility study by SilkAir, a few months ago on operating its flights out of Coimbatore airport, positive results ensued in planning to start operations by 2008.
IA too had this plan. Huge potential from the industrialists and businesses around Coimbatore, not to mention the agri produce from the neighbouring hill areas.
May start it once the new fleet starts getting in.
