great news!! A330 will look terrific in Indian colours.  What makes me even more happy is the fact that they were able to get this kind of plane.  The fact that they are 5yrs old and shall be around for 5yrs, is music to my ears.

This might even open up scope for future purchase of similar aircraft by IC.

Good heavens.

Aren't the India-UK routes saturated?

I'd love to know what the load factors and yields are for all the operators on these routes.

And if IC and AI are to be merged, then why on earth is IC flying to the UK and Australia?  Who is in charge of this ship?  This is all beginning to sound more and more like one of those old Ajit and Helen Hindi movies.

Ajit:  Haaa Haaa Haaa.  Hum do Ayarbus teen saun tees hawai jahaaz khareedenge aur Bambai se London jaayenge aur saari duniya hamein dekhenge aur kahenge "Waaah!"

Lily tum nahaati raho."

Helen: Yes Boss.

2 is a good start, but hardly enough if IC is serious about going longhaul in a big way. And they would be better off targetting the "holy grail" - India - US market, rather than mucking around further with India-UK.

But all said and done, what about the AI & IC merger and what impact does that have on this plan? Shouldn't any Long haul plans of IC be subject to the post-merger masterplan? Or is this an attempt by IC to influence the post-merger master plan by playing into all 3 territories - domestic, intl short haul, and intl long haul?

While I agree that India-UK market have lots of players it may not be bad if IC were to start something like DEL-LGW-JFK. There are no nonstop connections between LGW and India if I am not mistaken. Also a DEL-SIN-SYD flight may not be a bad idea. While they will directly be competing with the likes of SQ, TG, MH and CX, this may not be a bad idea as this is sure to find favour with Indian travellers and also Europeans and Americans looking for a slightly cheaper but reliable alternative option to Far East and Aus. That is offcourse provided tht IC is able to provide a reasonable product at a lower price than the Asian carriers.

On another note I have found the IC product(in terms of inflight service) to be fairly good and with decent IFE on the long haul routes they should have a fairly good product. I feel they sometimes unfortunately are badly branded due to the antics of its sibling AI.

Cheers

IAC A330 will compliment the AI routes if and when the mergers go ahead. Lon-MAA/BOM/DEL -SYD on a 6/wk is a sure shot seller with 2 a/c to start with. AI can concentrate on N.America and premium EU, whereas IA can target budget and charter EU/AUS pax Perfect combo exploiting core resources like Mx, Mktg, GrdSvc, & Crew.

Par mngmt ka kya hoga, wohi babu aur dilli ka punju.Mr Beri, Mr Aurora, Mr Abrol.... ............milking the  holy cow.

Mergers are totally off topic now its just a seasonal issue comes and fades out... But if through then its a very good idea as u suggested
