I tried zooming the Pic.But it was difficult to tell. The Shutdown Engine should windmill unless it has a Disentegrated Compressor or Turbine, which the side view shows was not the case.I would believe a bird but then maybe Vivek would know.
The Location coincidence is causing a confusion. Is there another front view pic or were it just these two.
Says it could be a damaged blade or compressor shard. But says it is difficult to say as the plane is too high. Discounts it being a bird.
Feels strongly that going by the waether conditions in the background, it could be a drop of rain also as you seem to have two drops of rain (!!!) on the lens just below. ie three rain drops (!!!) with the third one exactly on engine four.

Very Unlikely to be Compressor distress. As the Side of the Cowl looks Clean. In IFSD related to Engines normally apart from Fire Warning, its normally Turbine Distress that is a problem.Even a Bird hit to the Engine core can damage most of the Stages Compressor & Turbine included.
I was surprised that the Engine was not Windmilling.Guess I'll need to talk to someone from 9W Mx & get some info.
The pilot had requested a "Prioritity Landing" and did not declare an emergency ever. Its hard to tell from the pics, the cause of the problem

MUMBAI: A technical snag developed in the landing gear of a Jet Airways flight on Monday leading to the commander of the aircraft asking passengers to remove their shoes and brace themselves for an emergency landing.
The captain made the announcement minutes before the 150-seater Boeing 737-400, on its way from Thiruvananthapuram to Mumbai, made its final approach to land at Mumbai airport around 4.30 pm. Ambulances and fire engines were lined up on the runway for an emergency.
"Minutes before landing, the captain announced there was a technical snag. Passengers had already sensed something was wrong as the flight that was to land by 3.15 pm, had not landed even 90 minutes later," said a passengers.
"It was scary. When an announcement is made to sit bent with head protected by hands and shoes removed, you fear the worst," she added. Passengers were asked to remove their shoes as high heels can rupture the air-filled escape slide if it needs to be used for alighting from the aircraft. "We thought it was a fuel leak as we saw something dripping off the wings when we were alighting,” the passenger said.
A Jet Airways spokesperson confirmed that a technical snag had developed on the flight with 68 passengers on board. "Due to a bird hit, the sensor which indicates that the landing gear is down, locked and ready for landing, was damaged. So there was no indication in the cockpit about the position of the landing gear," said the spokesperson adding that it was not known when the bird strike occurred.
"The pilots did a go around, a low-altitude over-fly for the airline officials on ground to visually ascertain whether the tyres had come out for landing." After the pilots got a positive reply, they landed the aircraft. They called for emergency services as a precautionary measure.

Apart from a Visual confirmation by ATC on Gear Down & locked. The B737 classics have a provision of Visually checking that the Gears are down & locked from the Main Cabin & Cockpit for MLG & NLG respectively.Surprisingly no mention of this.
