This is my first post but I am a frequent visitor to Airliners.net and lately, Airliners-India.net. Couldn't help myself....so decided to share my views with you guys.
I have been visiting CCU for last 15 years from many places (outside India) at least 2 times a year. Out of those 30 (15x2) times, only about 30% times I flew in directly to CCU. But other times it was via DEL or BOM. The main reason being absurd fare to CCU (compared to DEL/BOM) or no convenient connection. I guess this is generally the trend for all frequent visitors to CCU.
What I am trying to say, is the loads on CCU-serving airlines are not representative of what CCUs PAX potential. But generally, TG/SQ (used few times, pretty good load), BA & AI (mainly due to DAC passengers) are doing pretty well.
It will be interesting to know the number of passengers bound for CCU or boarding from CCU for AI's LHR non-stop service.
With AI DAC bound passengers is understandable as the flight extends to Dhaka though with a different flight number.Do DAC bound passengers have to disembark in Kolkata and again board or do they remain seated. How are the DAC bound baggages tagged; i.e do they show a transfer in CCU or not ?
Can't understand the DAC connection with BA though as they have a dedicated non-stop service to both cities.A Dhaka passenger would rather take a non-stop flight rather than transit in CCU and wait 6-8 hours before boarding the first flight bound for DAC.
