Seat Numbering on Aircrafts & Airlines

Have you ever noticed that in seat numbers we have A B C D E F G H J K ( The I is missing ) I have noticed that there is no I in most of the airlines i have travelled in

Air India on it's

Boeing 747-400 has
ABC DEFG HJK

Boeing 747-400 Combi
ABC DEFG HJK

Boeing 747-337 Combi
ABC DEFG HJK

Airbus 310-304
AB CDEF GH

Boeing 777-200 ER
AB CDEFG HJ (However C is missing in Row 42 & 43)


Also if you notice, which i did....Airbus does not have any 13 row on its A310 for AirIndia, whereas Boeing does have it on all the variants.


Also, if I is confusing....then how come B is allowed as imagine u having a seat as 8B.....


I am studying www.seatguru.com & www.lovemyseat.com 


If you guys know of any other sites....please let me know.

Even in Mx the letters I & O are avoided.


About the no 13.....Guess it makes people feel relaxed to know that they are seated in row 14 which is situated after Row 12

Even most 5 star hotels dont have room no 13

I don't know about 13 being Unlucky.As For me.I passed my BAMAC Papers in Aviation,results were declared on Friday the 13th & I collected it after walking under a Ladder & a Cat crossed my path.

13 is still my Lucky number.


BTW. One of the Bays at BOM Airport ie #13 holds the Aircraft I do Mx on.

On belief i read some good lines and share with my fraternity.....

My dad had once told me this:


In the series alloted for registration of cars, bikes etc., I & O are not alloted as they resemble 1 & 0 closely.


Example: A number MH 04 AI 1111 can appear as MH 04 A11111 also.


Might be, that the same is the reason in case of aircrafts.
