However, any project that involves large scale reclamation or disturbing the existing eco-system is bound to draw protests, litigation and stay orders.
Just look at the status of the Bandra-Worli sea link which has been delayed because of this. Inspite of the construction in progress, the project still faces protests and litigations today.
Such delays in mega projects like an airport can send timelines and costs spiralling out of control. A better idea therefore would be to expedite the construction of the second airport in Navi Mumbai and share the loads between the two airports. An exclusive metro railway line connecting these two airports will also be a boon for passengers as well as other people staying in the vicinity.

I wish BOM would get a Hong Kong type airport on a man made island...esp good for BOM wid lack of space and no slums wud have to be cleared out.
i was wondering how much is the total land available at navi mumbai.if there is a good amount of land area available then why isnt a HKG type airport possible except for the fact that it would be on land and not land reclaimed from the sea.so the idea is to make huge airport in fast phases within the next 4-5 years and then increasing the size again in few years.what does the feasibilty report suggest.this way it would act as in the case of bangkoks suvarnbhoomi aiport.and may be later once the airport is build for the required capacity they can actually shut present CSI.this would have 2 advantages.one the area can be reclaimed for developing infrastructure for the mumbaikars and secondly would not hamper airport operations during monsoons when the mithi river starts to overflow.wat do u say.
Flew through Delhi 1-B departure today and was amazed at the millions of house-flies that have suddenly sprung up all over the place. Partly due to the potted plants and partly due to some new floor wax that the DIAL/AAI whoever are now using.
Went to Airport Manager's office to complain and they were all having lunch, and refused to give me the complaint book. So I sat down there and sent an eMail to MoCA, AAI, &c.

I think that the NH-8 side of DEL is now permanently used for takeoffs. Actually, I live in South Delhi and used to see the aircrafts approaching DEL, but now I see them heading towards their destinations...... Moreover, 2 new taxiways have been made operational. I think the taxiways are E3 & E5. Please correct me if I am wrong. Regards tSk
Yes the Dwarka side is currently used for landings. But what I have observed is that whenever there are rainy or thunderstorm conditions then this side is used for the approach.Otherwise we get the normal take-offs and landings.Correct me if i am wrong though.
Although I wish they make the approaches permanently from the Dwarka side but guess that depends on the wind conditions.

Yes this is true. Its been owned by an IC engineer now and used as a picnic spot.Don't know its exact location and will let you know once I find out.
Got some information,Its in Dwarka Sector-8 opposite CISF office.Easily approachable by Metro. Its also been given to Frankfinn Institute for their Air Hostess training. Its a fully Air Conditioned aircraft.Birthday parties are organized in it.It was grounded due to an emergency. The owner also gives AME training to students on the aircraft.Tell me if you are going to visit the place, then we can probably meet up and go together as I haven't seen it either.
Thanx Mayank... Was thinking that it might have been taken on lease by Frankfinn. Actaully, in their advertisements they show this aircraft. I was studying the pic, when I saw that the tyres were fixed with some kind of stoppers. I would be happy to visit Dwarka as I am also interested in seeing that side of DEL, the new approach side.

Hey will any one tell me how's the movement influenced at DEL? Sometimes NH-8 side is used for takeoffs and sometimes for landings. I wish to know the reasons which influence such changes. Awaiting ur views.....

This is all due to wind changes but there might be other reasons as well....What I have noticed is that whenever there are rains/thunderstorm in the area then the dwarka side is used for approaches..

It's owned by an IA engineer. Paid about 21 lakhs for it. Now used as a cabin crew trainer by Frankfinn Institute for its airhostess trainees.
NEW DELHI: In a few years, you may be boarding your low-cost flight from a no-frills terminal. Air Deccan MD Captain Gopinath recently made this proposal to the GMR group, which bagged the project of modernising IGI airport and gave the blueprint for a budget terminal.
This concept is already in vogue abroad. For instance, London has the Stanstead terminal exclusively for low cost carriers.
"We have asked GMR to create an exclusive space for low-cost airlines. It should not have any fancy things like an aerobridge that requires an aircraft to be pulled up to the bridge and then towed behind by a trolley for moving on its own,"said Gopinath.
The idea is to have very fast aircraft movement in which planes land; unload; get departing passengers and their baggage on board, and then take off fast.
"We don't want a marble palace. A simple, functional terminal suits low-cost carriers' needs just fine. Because of low fares, our planes can make money only by spending more time in air than on ground,"he said.
The contrast between a terminal for full-cost and no-frills airline can be drawn by comparing the Heathrow and Stanstead airports of London. While Heathrow has exclusive duty-free shopping area, restaurants and several other services, Stanstead has some outlets and coffee shops.
A Delhi Airport spokesperson said: "Air Deccan has made a proposal for a low-cost terminal and we are examining it.
"Sources said the new developers would take a hard look at the traffic flow of low cost carriers and its projections for the next few years before taking a final decision, as low-cost carriers have completely different requirements.
For instance, a low-cost carrier that does not sell edables on its flights, wanted low cost snack counters at IGI.
"We don't sell edables on board due to several reasons like not willing to charge more than the MRP. Passengers should be able to buy packaged food at terminal and then have it in flight,"the official said..
"The economics of a low-cost terminal are totally different from a full-cost one. The feasibility would have to be studied. The ultimate master plan for IGI did envisage a terminal for low-cost carriers but when this would happen is not known,"said a source. There was talk of using the existing terminals for budget airlines, once the new airport is ready. But all these plans are yet to be finalised.
Good to see something Innovative proposed for DEL. It's really an ambitious project, hope that it turns out be a reality. Morover, GMR-Fraport are planning to develop an Aerotropolis around DEL. CLick here 4 more
