Brand new DEL

Guys, Times of India on Thursday reported that DEL has fully started the simultaneous use of runways... TOI reported that takeoffs have started from the Jumbo Point side(NH-8), unlike the earlier use of Dwarka side only.
Moreover, DIAL(Delhi Intn'l Airports Ltd.) has fully taken over the charge of airport from Thursday. Now DEL will sport a Airport CEO unlike the old Airport Director.

Delhi is DIAL

Mumbai is MIAL

what next

I could keep my name as Superman, but would that help me fly.....Similarly, what has changed is just the name. I am sure fellow colleagues here would agree that the attitude of the red tape people still remains the same.

I use DEL for arrival and departure every week, and barring the potted plants (bringing in the bugs) and the vitreous tiles on the floor (making it slippery), there's not much more happening. Staff with long brooms walk along raising dust while the battery operated mobile vacuum cleaning vehicle is charging up next to it. The pre-paid taxi queue is still long at night and the operators don't give the duplicate receipt. Parking is a scam. So-called VIps clog the facilities blocking things.

They have a long battle ahead.

And till as long as the authorities concerned view the increased number of passengers as a problem instead of an opportunity, nothing will improve. As of now, every conversation/discussion I have had with people at AAI and MoCA revolves around this single point - more passengers is the problem.

Makes me wonder - would their ideal airport be one without any passengers?

Wasn't there an article in the media saying that basically the changes by DIAL have not solved the problems? I guess this may have been before the announced usage of both runways, but then that's reported by the venerable TOI, so I don't know how true it is!

You are right Nimish. But as of now, the whole control has been taken over by DIAL. So the actual transformation starts now...

DIAL responsible for Delhi. GMR group. Incharge since August 3rd, 2006.

MIAL responsible for Mumbai. GVK group. Incharge since August 3rd, 2006.

In fact, Mr.Sanjay Reddy, MD of MIAL and Mr.Phillip Cash, the new APD for Mumbai are very bullish on their plans.

The main aim of DIAL is to totally create a new environment for DEL in view of 2010 Commonwealth Games. They too are really bullish on their plans. Moreover, DIAL seems more aggressive than MIAL. Though this GMR-Fraport JV is very ambitious but lets see if they are able to deliver up2 the mark.

Well this is where the BIAS comes in......

Delhi's IGI was always better, bigger and yes more benefits and carpetted.....Mumbai's Chhatrapati was always grasping, groping and yes trying to get the loos in working order primarily always.....

So Delhi was always given the cream share.....so why fuss about it now.

good point jumbo!...

but although i would stop short for now of pointing out an out and out bias..... it wouldnt really surprise me if there was really....

just look at ALL the other things..... BOM pays more than any other city in this country... and contributes much much more than DEL can even come close to...yet just look at mumbai's general state of affairs now... utter disgrace...

i fail to understand why it has turned out like this..... just because DEL is capital grants it an above the law status?... and for what?... look at what the people of mumbai get in return for what they put in.... peanuts..

I have always felt this bias.....all along when i was in AI and yes now when im not....but if you ask me nothing will change.....

GVK will want to up its revenue from a host of other activities and then let us see what does the traveller actually get in terms of service and utilities.

At Delhi and Mumbai airports, the revenue earned by Airports Authority of India (AAI) was Rs. 569.52 crores and Rs. 586.75 crores in 2004-05 and Rs. 673.41 crores and Rs. 665.54 crores in 2005-06 respectively. This information was given to the Parliament by Shri Praful Patel, Minister for Civil Aviation in the Rajya Sabha today.

So DEL seems to have overtaken BOM in terms of revenue generation.

And regarding the Bias everyone seems to feel BOM gets a swanky new terminal 1B and in DEL passengers still have an harrowing time at IGIs Terminal 1B.CLearly what a bias against BOM in favour of DEL right.

Total Terminal Area of BOM in sqm is approx 184455 and DEL is 103187 .So clearly DEL is MUCH bigger than BOM right.

Just one advice ,Guys Please get out of the BOM fixation.

Govt to hold talks with AAI employees: Patel
 Mumbai, Aug 5 (UNI)

Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel today said he would hold fresh negotiations with Airports Authority of India employees, who have threatened to go on strike later this month against privatisation of metro airports.
‘‘We will hold fresh negotiations with AAI employees, perhaps during the next week,’’ he told reporters here.
The Airports Authority of India employees’ joint forum had announced a 36-hour strike from August 17 alleging that the government went ahead with the privatisation process without consulting them.
About the privatisation procedure, Patel said it was the general perception that the privatisation of metro airports will reduce the burden on AAI.
‘‘We have discussed and we believe that modernisation of metro airports through private participation will reduce the burdern on AAI,’’ he said.
On Wednesday, Mumbai and New Delhi international airports were completely handed over to GMR and GVK consortia, which bagged the contract for the projects.
Within hours, AAI employees announced a nationwide ’satyagraha’, which will begin at 7 am on August 17 and end at 7 pm the next day. Around 14,000 of the 21,000 AAI employees across India would go on a mass leave and services ‘‘would certainly be affected’’.
Asked whether the pay package of the AAI employees would be matched with those of Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd and Delhi International Airport Pvt Ltd, Patel said: ‘‘Their salaries would be good’’.

Well This is news to me that DEL earns higher revenue than BOM. Guys there is no need to fight about as to what airport should get importance and which one shouldnt.  I agree that Govt has a DEL fixation when it comes to infrastructure but then at the same time being a national capital i guess it simply gets this privilege...

Regarding BOM guys flying into DEL to catch flights well all i can say is that anyone and everyone is welcome
