What does this site mean to you ?
Permalink Closed

I am sure most of you'll have read my rantings on the civil aviation forum, particularly the thread on '' Indian Aviation and parliament''.

IMO this site can be turned into vocal tool to initiate change. Airliners.net is a strong forum where you can see the A vs B war being taken seriously with strong solid facts being debated. I will be surprised if both the OEM and other OEMs don't take that site seriously as it is a strong medium of MEDIA and does impress many airline execs.

I believe there is scope to position this site as a voice of Aviation in India with regards to stating opinion on happenings within the country, yes opinion. The more valid opinions will definately get the attention required as the number of members swell. Live chats with powers that be can be visualised depending on the membership and traffic, site owners can look at the commercial prospects ( I am aware this is not been setup for free, i don't mind paying, but i warn i don't like overzealous moderators, have been a victim before) from this site; which i am sure you'll have.

There is room for all Travellers, Airport buffs, Airline veterans, Grease monkeys and Number crunchers. Another thing i would like to see is healthy discussions rather than just news article postings only. I visit avindia.blogspot.com for my feed of info.

Do i have a job ? yes, i am back to work next wedneday 2nd of August.

As long as this does NOT degenerate into an old boy's club it's fine.

Had enough of that to an extent on a-net.

Second this.

Opinion apart, you need a base to build stuff on!!

Look at the famous LAX-DESI threads. He starts everything by pasting news. So nothing wrong in just posting news items.

Remeber the audience too.

Also its helps to get all the news in one area rather then waste time hunting all over the net.

KCM, how does it help if people in the know keep posting every news articles as new threads when these can be posted in existing threads, and to confuse the #@it out of the whole thing they resurrect the old thread again with yet another news article. Credit to Laxdesi for atleast maintaining a semblence of continuity.

Well going fwd, i hope this can be corrected by directing members to the relevant threads if they unknowingly started a new thread.

And please everyone, at the end of the day this just a #@#cking site to chat don't take it too seriously, like i said before  ENJOY. There is no awards for the most clued up dick out here.

frankly! I take serious objection to your reference to site in such a manner.  I must reiterate that participation in the site is totally voluntary.

Language is going wayward. I hope this is being noted.

Second, members here I guess should know or will eventually learn how to use the "search" and "advanced search" facility to search ... and then post.

This site is a blessing. Hope it soars to greater heights. Not many can afford the $25 dollar fee (or is it more or less?) of airliners.net.

For you, this site may be just the net equivalent of hanging out on the beach front. But please don't run it to the ground. Anything can be made ****. It all depends on how you use it.

Surprising this comment comes from you. Just a while ago you wanted it to become a "voice" that can influence policy!

                                            *******

As said earlier, you need substance to build a thread.

How Laxdesi is able to maintain order is because in that "mass of entangled wires", his is the only thread on Indian aviation. Hence anything on Indian aviation is pasted and posted there.

It's not the case here, right?

In this forum, some threads do help cut down the mess/ot the potential for mess that you are implying. Just an example. There are two threads Airbus News and Boeing News. Post all Airbus and Boeing material there.

But for this, you need to be a little disciplined enough to search and advance search before posting.

Another solution may be to have a "single view" of all the threads instead of having to check all the pages. On the net, in articles that run across five pages, you have this option ... of single view.

So have a siingle view, figure things out and then post. May be a bit tough, but worth it.

My irritation stems from the adolosent postings where some members start getting into a personal fight over SOURCE. You see the same set of people contributing with the same posting SOURCE ! I do believe one should quote the source and this where i had to use a colorful language to describe this site as place to ENJOY, where in you can quote a source any source only at the peril of once own reputation depending on how adsurd is the NEWS being posted, well when TOI can cook up NEWS why can't the members here. The most irritating fact is to read new article after another on every post with a By/Fore-line. Come on guys i am sure you'll can contribute more to this.

And pls don't start getting into another tangent when i say adolosent, i am really proud of the younger members. I wish i had half their knowledge while i was at their age.

Okay everybody breathe easy and

Lets keep the facts and fiction coming.

A few "adolescent" observations:

You seem to dangle a bait and then expect all to bite it.

What do you keep ranting about anyway?

As Aseem said, if it is so irritating to be a member here, why don't you just "jet-blast" out of the door or get "jet-blasted"?

Some sources can't be identified in some cases. But quoting a source, as "some of the younger members do" doesn;t mean it will be like Jaswant Singh and his mole.  And ALL postings that said "a source in ..." anyway were/are 100% RIGHT.

The moderators have a sharp eye and swing into action. They have followed every post, deleted some threads and given a logical explanation/argument. If they did have a problem with this "source" issue, they would have warned the member concerned.

Also if you did care to follow that legendary thread on the "Rustbucket" in airliners.net, about 40% of it had "amateur notings". But that was what made it a thread with a diff.

What's wrong if you follow a particular format in posting anyway? Many things in life have to follow a pattern.

lET ME QUOTE AN EXAMPLE. A leading MNC bank has a branch here. In its quest for an ISO9001/WHO rating, it has to folow certain guidelines/rules. One of these is marking circles on the floor to place dustbins on,  have marking on the stairwells and stairs to guide staff (left and right flourescent markings) and signage asking staff not to spit, maintain silence and keep left or right. This is just a part of what has to be done.

It looks very amateurish. Never fails to tickle custimers. But has to be done as its a part of international standards/rules/compiliation.

So posting in a thread with byline and dateline markings needn;t work you up into a frenzy.

I guess you thought you could storm into this forum and become the prince. So when you felt/feel it isn;t working you get mad.

Just a thought. Now that Sean is back, are you Rustbucket in a new avatar?

Sure will tickle adolosents as they can't think out of the box ''I know best'' , The flourescent markings are for Health and Safety, to guide people in the event of a blackout. You don't want to break your neck falling down the stairs triping over a dustbin kept randomly, would you.

There should be a METHOD to every madness.

By the way are we married ?

There should be a METHOD to every madness in this forum too. We don't want to break our neck falling down or tripping over the fevered rantings of someone who might be insane.

To (mis)quote you, using your words in Posting No 4:

"You seem to be the most clued up dick out here. But anyway ...  Don't take it too seriously, like i said before  ENJOY."
