Yeh hai badta baccha, dekho kaise kuud lagaye,
Yeh hai badta baccha, kapda chhota hota jaye...
I'm a Complan Boy!
I'm a Complan Girl!

jab main chotta baccha tha, badi shararat karta tha, meri chori pakdi jaatiiiiii, jab roshni deta bajaj.
kya rangeen jawani thi, ik raja aur ik rani thi, raja rani ghar ke andarrrrrr, aur roshni deta bajaj.
ab main bilkul boodha hoon, goli khaake jeeta hoon, lekin aaj bhi ghar ke andarrr, roshni deta bajaj.

Doordarshan used to start at around 5 pm or so... initially the screen was of 7 vertical bands of the B/W shades then that tune with the DD logo forming in the background... then the announcer announcing

"Doordarshan Mumbai chya sandhyakalchya sabhet aaple swaagat aahe... aajche karyakram.."

As kids, we used to watch "Show Theme", "Star Trek", "Different Strokes", "Kahan Gaye Woh Log", "Dada Dadi Ki Kahaniyan", "Bawaji Ka Biscope", "Aisa Bhi Hota Hain" on Sunday Mornings.

Some othe shows on weekdays that I remember: Swami, Singhasan Bateesi, Fauji, Vikram Aur Betaal, Ados Pados, Yes Prime Minister, Tasveer ka Dusra Rukh, Udaan, Street Hawk, Knight Rider, Katha Saagar, Tamas, Whats the good word, Bante Bigadte, Old Fox, Subah, Life Line, and those TeleMatches, Mister Yogi. I still remember that funny line from Mister Yogi. [I could understand the joke back then ]

Yogi Introducing himself to a PYT: "Y.I. Yogi".
PYT: "Thats your problem"

Does Anyone remember the Pepsi Ad? The full one with Remo and Juhi "Are you ready for the magic?"

The other Pepsi one with Aamir, Mahima and of course, Sanju a.k.a Ash. No one can forget that.

The Thrill One - Hum, Tum aur Thrill. Chaahe Mera Dil.

Yeh Bechaara kaam ke bhoj kaa maara. Isey chahiye Sinkara.

The Lehar 7up Fido Dido

"aao chale hum lekar apni Tobu cyclen"

BTW!! I am sure most of you shall recall the first Hindi serial as "Hum Log", but how many of you recall THE first Hindi serial, which was "Bibi Natiyon Wali".  It was Lucknow DD production, and was against the background of Lucknow settings.

Among animation and children related, who can forget "Jamie and the Magic Torch", "Giant Robot".

Also, all those Sunday morning serials one after the other and of good quality.

I've wanted to get this off my chest for long, thanks to himmat ! I was in primary when telly was intro in Bombay - 1973circa. It was Magic Lamp on sundays for the kids. My favourite TV dramas ( not serial ) Gadvya cha lagna ( Marathi- Donkeys wedding), Aao mare saathe (Guju - Come along with me ), Ladku singh taxiwalla ( Hindi- 1975 Emergency propaganda prog) and Chiman rao (marathi - I think this was a serial ) by the way all of these were comedy. The cast from Aao mare saathe went on to work later in the famous Bharat dabholkar musicals '' Bottoms Up''. Chiman Rao had Dilip prabhawalkar and baban prabhu, ladu singh taxiwalla made Paintal a comedy star, Gadvyacha lagan was rustic Marathi humour at its best.

pssstt - Leela bhabi from ''Ba, bhau aur bhabi'' on STAR does it for me.......

Cheers

As far as the advt go nothing to beat Nafisa Ali in the DO IT - cola or was it Applea advt '' I am ritu rao but they call me wow'', she was absolutely stunning (clawing your heart out) in those advts. Yes there was a cola called DO IT, this is post emergency 1977, thanks to socialist leader and train stopper (he has stopped more trains than any other indian leader, mostly by sleeping on the tracks alongwith another 10,000 protesters) George Fernandes.

how many of you remember the Intro tune and animation of DD?  I mean the one they played at the begining of the transmission.  And also the B&W grid to adjust your Brightness and Contrast (no colours then).

And also, how one had to haggle to control the Vertical rolling (sad, that Vertical Hold control no longer exists) of the pictures.  Those days were fun, and so were the days of Radio cricket commentary.  I remember quite a few people used to turn off the volume of TV, and switch on the radio.  The lag of radio commentry was fun in itself.

Karatecatman, A_380 and Saurabh-101, you were just too late and missed it all.

Hey Please!!!

I remember that very well ---DD signature tune. Huge oval that rotated and that sad tune. Announcer read out the day's programme. Ended with a bright smile on the face. Many of those announcers are now Dy Directors in DD!!!

It used to be on grandparents b/w EC TV (A Govt of India undertaking under the Dept of Atomic Energy) with external shutters and external stabiliser. Connected to antenna that always broke when a crow sat on it.

Those days one had to book a TV. Much like standing in line at a ration ship and then there was the system of Licence. First phased out for radio and then TV. One also had to pay tax for TV and radio at the post office.,

Remember that also as once we came to grandparents house for the holiday, thie wasa highlight. Taking a rickshaw to the GPO to pay the tax.

Miss the time when you could go the the viewing gallery at the airport. Was just an open terrace on the building and you could watch the plane come right in.

Remember very well a trip to Chennai airport to receive a relative from the US. IA A300 taxied in very slowly that afternoon from Mumbai. (He landed at Mumbai and took the connecting IA flight).

Took almost 10 mins to come to the bay. A bunch of us cousins almost fell off the terrace/viewing gallery watching every detail. No security then.

Later they fixed a wire mesh fence.

After the LTTE blasted off part of the terminal, then came all the checks and scrutiny.

The end of paradise!!!

There even used to be a drink called Pee Cola. It was there long before Morarji Desai publicized his drinking habits.
