When are the Aircraft Arrivng in the country.I heard ops start 2nd August 2006.So would a week earlier be ok. regds MEL

I think I saw one in Delhi yesterday, but it was dark and it was parked in the far corner beyond the 9W hangar, closer to where the AAI junks are lying. From what I hear they have one aircraft on charter for the Lebanon repatriation and may place a second one too, but that is yet uncomfirmed, though it makes logical sense.

I mean not just the old trucks, buses, motor cars, fire engines lying in state near the fire-station  . . . but the old Avros/HS-748s . . . all awaiting the great scrapyard in the sky. There are a few bays on that side, which are often also used by non-sked operators.

Just wondering as to which countries airlines serve meals on domestic flights apart from offcourse India. I am asking this because i just made a quick dash to Brisbane from Sydney. I went by DJ (Virjin Blue) and came back by QF (Qantas)

Though i knew DJ is a LCC so offcourse we had to buy snacks and stuff on board. But i was in shock for my life when qantas ppl just offered nibbles and OJ for a 1 and 1/2 hr flight. Then i realised probably they are following the american model . I guess in US too u dont have a meal service inflight. If thats the global norm then

The indian full service carriers are themselves responsible for creating overheards which includes 3 course meals being offered to people.

so wat do u reckon guys...

The base cost of the meal itself or even the transaction cost by way of cleaning up &c &c is not so much the issue as the amount of quality time wasted by senior management in following up on catering based complaints.

Which is what gets removed to some extent by serving branded food items like SubWay sandwiches.

Which other countries? I think India is amongst the last. Most other places food on board is a nuisance value item to the airliner.

Not a big deal even Air France, Alitalia and Lufthansa offered us just like that

Common offered us an OPTION between water, soft-drink and champagne

Alitalia offered us a small sandwich.

Lufthansa nothing other than a chocolate pack that to just for me!

Air France gave us a sort of a sandwich

IMO Indigo will turn out to be one of the strongest airlines within India based on their management profile and the parent companies past record.

I don't know of many start-up airlines with respected executive like Rakesh Gangwal and Peermohamed on their board, except, one that comes to mind is JetBlue. It started with David Neeleman a respected airline exec and George Soros. They had placed an order for 75 aircraft before start of ops. I know peermohamed is no george soros however you have to give him his due for raising the finance for EMIRATES for the last 10yrs or more.

Rakesh Gangwal could turn out to be the LN Mittal of Indian aviation, you never know. .........................i have the right to fantasise

He has worked earlier with US Airways, British Airways and some other airline.

Will find out

I think it was American Airlines. Rono Datta was at United Airlines. These were (are?) the two largest airlines in the US, although not the most profitable.
Both were at the CEO/President level at the same time in the early 90s. Incidentally both of them have similar backgrounds; Gangwal is IIT Kanpur + Wharton, Datta is IIT Kharagpur + Harvard (I may have got the MBA part mixed up, but am sure about the IIT part)

Rakesh Gangwal was named chairman, president and chief executive officer of Worldspan in June 2003 and appointed to the Company’s board of directors.

Gangwal has held various positions with several major corporations in the areas of travel distribution and management, corporate strategy, operations, technology management, engineering and finance.

From 1998 to 2001, Gangwal served as chief executive officer of US Airways Group.  Gangwal joined US Airways in February 1996 as president and chief operating officer, at which time he was also appointed to the board of directors of both US Airways, Inc. and US Airways Group.

From 1994 to 1996, Gangwal served as executive vice president – Planning and Development for Air France.  From 1984 until his appointment at Air France, Gangwal worked at United Airlines serving in a variety of capacities including senior vice president of Planning, vice president of Financial Planning and Analysis, vice president of Revenue Management and vice president of Flight Administration.

Gangwal’s association with the travel industry commenced in 1980 when he worked with United Airlines as a management consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton.  Earlier in his career, Gangwal was with the financial planning and analysis group of Ford Motor Company.  Additionally, he was a production and planning engineer with Philips India, Ltd., a subsidiary of N.V. Philips.

In 1999, BusinessWeek recognized Gangwal as one of 1998’s 25 top global executives. He currently serves on the OfficeMax Incorporated board of directors and was a board member of the Boise Cascade Corporation prior to its spin-off of OfficeMax Incorporated.  In addition, Gangwal is a past board member of the Air Transport Association (ATA) and the Airline Tariff Publishing Company (ATPCO).  Gangwal was also a member of the board of trustees for both Providence – St. Mel School in Chicago and Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove, Illinois.

He holds a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur, India.  Gangwal was born in Kolkata, India.  He and his wife have one daughter.

Rono did a good job selling (to JET) a bad company at SAHARA but in doing so i think he has lost a lot of credibility within India. Never know might make a come back. Rakeshs time at AF was considered to be one of the best turn around stories of the 90s.
