After Low-Cost Carriers now its the turn of cellphone companies to launch "Low-Cost Cellphones".

New Delhi, July 12 (ANI): The US-based Texas Instruments Incorporated has announced plans to set up a new research and development centre in Chennai to develop a cell phone chip that could reduce the cost of a cell phone to Rs.1000 (about 20 dollars). Briefing reporters about the proposed project, IT and Communications Minister Dayanidhi Maran said discussions on it had taken place with Texas Instruments(TI) executives.

The so called full service cellphone companies cannot get their network to work in times of crisis, I wonder how the low cost cellcos will perform!!
