While liberal treaties are great, the Indian side is not able to use them due to the stupid 5 year restriction on intl operations. I wish the govt would remove that restriction, and then sign full open skies (and with full 5th freedom) with SIN

Nah! Not a good idea. Just think the other way if they do so then tomorrow every Middle East Sheikh, Every big company wud start an international airline fly for some years enter the stock market and declare bankrupt and get out of the country

Even if not this then every airline wud focus on intl rather than domestic like DN will ask Airbus to replace its 5 A320s orders out of the 30 A320s order to be converted into 2-3 A330s... Kicking India's domestic low-cost competition similarly carriers like IndiGo wud replace 20 A320 orders for 9-10 A330s or 7-8 A340s, etc.

And if the govt is not able to give them routes then they will sue the govt and start blaming other airlines there will be chaos among the carriers for this topic

So even though this law has its -ve points it is still needed in a country like India where an aviation bubble is not a dream it can occur anytime

It really hurts to see new comers like Air Arabia and Jazeera Airways flying into India while Kingfisher, Air Deccan and SpiceJet are not allowed to fly overseas.

GOI prefers to let foreign airlines mint money on India routes but would rather not allow an Indian airline to do so. How stupid can one get?

speaks volume of stupidity of GoI. Any reasonably shrewed government would first unleash its own entreprenures and then push for liberalized agreement with other countries. Here it seems the typical generous Indian mentality is at work, letting everybody to reap its bounty.

See when Air Arabia and Jazeera Airways fly into India there is an airline from our country which is countering them...

For eg if tomorrow india and country x decide to have aerial links then if India operates 10 flights a week even they will operate 10 flights a week now if its a country like Nepal its an exception.

Jazeera and Arabia are state owned (or better sheikh-owned) so their govt can allow them intl. besides every country has different rules

Like someone said - The Government has no business to be in business!!

Although the logic behind this policy is sound - let the airlines develop & prove themselves in the domestic market before they operate on international routes, they should consider this on a case-case basis. e.g. they should look at the track record of an airline for 2-3 years before allowing them to go international. Airlines like Kingfisher are losing out on the international market share & foreign airlines keep coming in.....

babus in Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan should understand that no airlines in right mind would want to start an International only airlines, after all they need domestic feed as well. Nobody can deny the need in domestice sector, so the players will pay adequate emphasis on domestic routes. Do these babus think why these domestic players ordered 100 planes in spite of legislation. They'd have ordered more had they allowed them to fly international.
