Jet Airways to introduce Amritsar-London flight on Aug 4

Chandigarh, July 26 (UNI)

Jet Airways, India’s premier airline, will launch its new international flight linking Amritsar with London, making it the first Indian carrier to provide a direct service between the Holy City to the United Kingdom.

The thrice a week service will be operated with a brand new leased Airbus A330-200 aircraft on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from August 4 onwards. Flight 9W 124 will depart from Amritsar at 1425 hrs and reach London’s Heathrow airport at 1905 hrs (Local Time) the same day. The return flight 9W 123 will depart from London at 2235 hrs (Local Time) and arrive at Amritsar at 1135 hrs, the next day.

This direct service to London, will be the fourth non-stop flight operated by Jet Airways from India to London. The airline already operates two daily flights between Mumbai and London and one daily flight between Delhi and London, Mr Wolfgang Prock Schauer, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jet Airways announced at a media briefing here today.

As part of its inaugural offer, Jet Airways is introducing a special Companion Free Offer in the Premiere Class. This offer is valid till August 31 and outbound travel must commence on/before August 31. Both fare paid and companion passenger must travel together for the outbound sector.

The LOH flew DEL-LHR yesterday on 9W-122 (a new A-332, don't ask for registration and stuff like that, please!!) in Economy, got two seats to herself as well as nobody in the row ahead, so flight must have been quite light. (Understand that VS which goes head-to-head with their old 343, was even lighter.) Fare was 16500.oo + taxes (I think).

According to her, this was the best international flight (in economy) that she has ever taken, and as far as DEL-LHR is concerned, this is it. Onthis route, BA, VS, SR/LX, EK, AI, SU, been there, done it.

9W A-332 is very silent in the cabin, IFE is state of the art.

The first meal after departure is very grand, and after that if you still have room, they run 2 snack services with additional food on offer.

The afternoon departure/DEL and late evening departure/LHR suit us, as does the fare and the date-change conditions. (One date-change on return allowed free . . .).

Brief report basis very rapid-fire feedback.

I doubt it - the 343 is even quieter, since it's engines are further away from the body, and being smaller capacity individually, they make less noise.

The Jet A332 uses RR Trent 500 series and A343 uses CFM-56, both these engines have what is called as ducted fans i.e. The cold Fan air mixes with hot core engine exhaust inside the duct (cowling) before exiting out in to atmosphere. This helps in reducing exhaust noises.

The CFMs on A320 and B737 don't have ducted fans, you can see the Fan cowl runs short of the exhaust. The V2500 has a ducted fan.
