4th August is the start date. I tried booking tickets on their website: www.goindigo.in and tried booking tickets for the inaugural Delhi-Guwahati flight on Aug 4th. It shows me a fare of INR 999 for both the onward and return flights. Here are the details:

IndiGo Fare   Adult  Rs. 999
Fri, 04 Aug 06
Flight 6E 201
5:30 AM   Depart  Delhi
7:45 AM  Arrive  Guwahati

IndiGo Fare   Adult  Rs. 999
Sat, 05 Aug 06
Flight 6E 202
11:05 AM   Depart  Guwahati
1:20 PM  Arrive  Delhi

One thing to note is that the total taxes charged by Indigo are INR 825, the break-up of which is:

INR 225 - PSF

INR 500 - Fuel surcharge

INR 100 - passenger handling fee

This means that they are charging 100Rs more as compared to other airlines.

P.S. Anyone game to fly and report on their inaugural flight??

Airways hotting up -- all roads lead to Indigo?

Airways hotting up

Lalatendu Mishra

Mumbai, July 23, 2006

India's airlines business is heading for a major shakeout as large number of private airline employees get set to join IndiGo, the latest venture with its 100-plane plans. IndiGo is potentially the biggest-player to start operations in early August.

“All of a sudden there is lot of excitement. Many of us are considering a shift as the offers are too lucrative to resist,” said a senior engineer of an airline on the current buzz in the job street. Bearing the brunt are smaller airlines managing now with shoestring budgets and wafer-thin margins.

After the Jet-Sahara break up, private airline employees once again find themselves on top of the food chain as IndiGo begins its hiring spree, sweeping up engineers, pilots and support staff in a sector that is critically short of trained personnel.

Ground duty engineers currently earning a monthly salary of Rs 80,000 are being offered Rs 1.30 lakh as monthly compensation, said market sources. IndiGo is making similar offers for other grades.

“We are certainly hiring and will be hiring more in the months ahead,” said IndiGo Chief Executive Officer Bruce Ashby to HT. Denying hiring on premium, he said, "We are only paying market rates."

I dont know about their first flight to the North East, but the internet fares for their Delhi - Pune flight have just dropped even further, on many days it is 1200/- + 825/- = 2025.oo versus the 3k+ levels earlier today.

Other flights/airlines on the same route are running kind of full and at the upper end of the band.
