On another topic!

Deccan's cabin maintenance is poor. A relative who flew from Delhi to Chennai recently said it was smelling bad. Seat cushions were in tatters and found leftover pickle smeared on the sidepanels and tray tables.

Carpet was in shreds.

STD was 8.30 pm. They boarded at 10.30 pm, but a delay with no explanation. The door was left open. Finally at midnight, door was closed and took off. Reached Chennai at 245 am

We were waiting at Chennai airport since 10.30 pm to receive the person. Kids who had come with us were furious and have sworn not to come to the airport.

Basically - no seats available. I searched for seats from BLR to different cities (like DEL/CCU etc.), but only found the standard priced seats (3K-4K/head). Nothing in the magical range that was announced.

Seats on the BOM-DEL sector were available for Rs 1574/- (without taxes) for travel in July/August till Monday.

380 - are you serious?

This must be the most ridiculous statement I've heard on this board - or I've not understood what you're trying to say.

Agree with you on Jet & Kingfisher, but what makes you say that other LCCs are better than Deccan? I have flown all of them and each of their schedules go for a toss, the moment something goes wrong. Inflight services on each one of them is almost in the same league.....

One should fly a LCC if he/she is not too tight on time. This way an hour's delay here and there won't affect plans too much. If you are flying & have a commitment, then its better to stick to 9W or IC.

Absolutely right. If you wanna save a great deal of money, you've gotta be flexible as well.

Now this is a interesting comment. I wanna know what kind of 'less' decent crowd flies on DN?

380 - Remember - pay peanuts - get monkeys. Hence the lack of service on DN is nothing to be surprised or shocked about.

DN is brilliant because of their conviction in bring low cost fares to the Indian people. IC, 9W etc. have no such desires - they only wish to bring back the earlier ridiculous fares (12K one way DEL-BLR).

DN's flights go full (hopefully?) since people want to fly for cheap (free if possible), and don't care about the lack of service.

If you have extra money, feel free to spend it on 9W/IC. However for the rest of the country, DN is the answer - they have introduced these low fares and manage to spread across the country connecting secondary (and tertiary) cities via air.

I will say - people (with time on hand) should stop flying 9W/IC, and fly only the LCCs when possible . However if you're travelling on business (and time is critical), then forget about DN (or AI), stick to the established carriers (like IC/9W or LH/BA)

You can get the low fares on 9W and IC too but not as low as DN. I travelled to Delhi from BLR last month on IC. Paid Rs. 6600.00 for a RT. In Feb, I paid Rs. 4400.00 for BLR-BOM-BLR on IC. [including taxes in both cases)

My wife's sister flew down from BOM on DN last week, she paid Rs. 1921.00 including tax. The difference is marginal if you are travelling alone but if you are travelling with a family on non business purpose, it is much cheaper to travel by DN.

But i feel service is also important in long flight (like BOM-DEL)

hmm

interesting opinions about LCCs.

Well, DN concentrated on spreading its network and now it is into focusing on operations. And if everything goes well according to their plans, in a year's time i would be reading on this forum- DN being precise on take-off and landing time.

i have been delayed by maximum one hour on ground and on hold too :(.

As Nimish rightly pointed out, DN is the most stable airline we have found in years. We can call it a revolutionary airline that has touched a largest population of India.

Wait for few more years before criticising them.

One interesting note- i happened to observe and old man - shabbily dressed and had DN ticket. As soon as he entered the cabin, he found pieces of a biscuit on the seat. He was furious that the seat was dirty. Interestingly, if it was a train ( AC class also can be counted) or a bus, he would have cleaned it and sat. Since it was an airline, he expected to be treated royally.

DN doesn't aim at higher strata of society. And their ticket pricing also involves price calculation.

(told to me by an official in DN)

more to come on DN operations and business strategy if you guys are interested.

I have an interesting story on Rs 1 ticket. This incident happened in real and i am supposed to interview that guy. this happened in November 2005.

He is from Kolkota. He got Re 1 ticket from Mumbai to kolkota. Excited for tarvelling on air for the first time and that too for such an amazingly low price, the guy brought all his family friends to the airport.

he was busy saying bye to his folks. Since he knew many employees of  AAI, he personally went to say bye. He did not even hear announcement to get to security check. The DN flight took-off without him.

Poor guy had to pay Rs 8,000 to Jet Airways to get to Kolkota!
