Do u guys think it'll be a good idea to bring in something like:
"Photograph of the Month" or "Topic of the Month" (clicked/written by users) depending upon the votes/hits a picture/post gets by all of us? Keeping a link to it on the front page and all... Sure gets me motivated to click/write something interesting already...

we don't have any such option, and also not sure if the service provider is already using it. I'll try to place photo of the month somewhere and see how it is liked? rgds VT-ASJ

Will there be any benefit from the cost point of view if we shift to another service provider?
BTW, if the moderators want to see a forum supported by phpbb, here is the link: phpBB forum
I am open to the idea of moving to another service provider. Even to the extent of creating profile for members myself. But the thing is whether members will agree to the idea of losing all the archives? rgds VT-ASJ

Aseem,
If we want to keep our archives & migrate to another forum, here is what we can do: Downgrade this forum to a free one (if possible), close all the threads, and start with another service provider.
This is only what I could think of. Criticism is welcome. Other members can come up with better ideas for retaining the archives.
BTW, which other service providers can we move to?

Yes i also feel the same. If this one cn be brought down to the regular free one and close the threads here.
Which ever threads we need we will simply copy and paste it in the new forum. We have to lose something to gain something.

there is another one called phpBB. Can anyone highlight the difference between the two?
IMO Aseem try mailing both the customer services and explain our requirements... the one which offers better options we'll check out their existing forums and then we'll decide

in short, we are not rushing into this. For the simple reason, that I don't want to be called a "Tuglaq" by moving you all back to this forum. rgds VT-ASJ

this is something which is really workable. Currently, I am looking for a good service provider who uses phpBB. Regarding that Overdrive forum, it seems they have installed phpBB on their own server and customized it according to their needs.
What we are looking for is a good service provider who would give us max options and also upgradable to ad-free. I did some search, but there were non that I could call on the mark. So if you people can help search it will be good.

Hi aseem:
I for some reason think the best step would be to get our own server. No i am not kidding i am serious. Maybe we can do some research and find out prices etc and i for one would gladly contribute. We can gather the number of people who are willling to contribute and work ti on from there.
Persons contributing would get an acknoledgement somewhere on the site. We wont need a very high capacity server because for the initial months/years we can keep photos on third party sites.
Having a server give us tremendous flexibility. And i think it should be seriously considered. We dont even need an elaborate server.. an assembles PC would do fine with a huge HDD of 200 gigs or so.

Yes, we would want to reach the level you are talking of, but currently what I am looking for is a service provider where we can upgrade gradually as we grow without losing archives and making members register again.
Does anybody know any such service provider? rgds VT-ASJ
