Found it online last year while doing a search on India's now defunct private airlines. Brought back great memories of the `90's Indian Aviation Industry.

Hope u guys enjoy this.

I still remember those Modiluft jets with the Lufthansa look-alike tails. Modiluft had a tie-up with Lufthansa for engineering and maintenance works.

In fact Modiluft's 737-200s were leased from Lufthansa.

Highly doubt they did. AFAIK LH only provided maintainence support and of course the aircrafts.

the article clearly states the reason for failure in the last sentence, that is the kind of people that entered the aviation industry.  All of them including NG are nondescript.  Were Tatas allowed to enter, we'd have seen similar players in the industry.  Unlike Telecom, Aviation has not attracted the professional kinds.

Had the TATA-SIA deal gone through I wonder where Aviation would be today.

IMO NG handled it the best. The very fact that he's established a world class airline within a period of 13 years proves that he's done a great job. In the middle of last year, when the 9W-S2 deal was in it's infancy, India Today published NG's biography. It made great reading and very clearly described NG's ability and foresight. Just wish he'd care a little more for his employees

Very true. And because of this, it has carved a niche for itself as a premium domestic airline. Not to explain the innovations like the Kiosk check-in, etc.
