What's happening with Paramount Airlines? Heard last that they were on their way out. Is this true. Anybody here with some additional info?

Last I heard, Paramount had ordered 5 more Embraer jets (2 170s and 3 175s)

The airline suspended its operations from DEL but operates in South India. I had seen a Paramount Embraer jet at Coimbatore in December 2005.

Paramount is trying to do a Damania.

Trying to introduce ultra luxury -- four course meals on short sectors and all business class seating. The latest is that he will introduce flat beds.

But their operations and flight staff are those who have been rejected by everyone else. 90% are from Brazil and one of the Russian federations.

Is trying every trick but this airline will eventually go or be swallowed up. It may be around, fight and then vanish. Paramount's Thiagarajan has deep pockets. His textile empire across South India takes care of that.

Apparently it appears to be in the wrong market. Besides it's business model has limited scope in a country like ours.

Paramounts biz class is called just for names sake and maybe for on ground service like on ground vallet parking etc.

But its seat pitch is a measerly 32 inches altough their meals are fantastic [my father told me] and a very neat looking aircraft.

Also their flights to Delhi were the only ones that dint get cancelled due to fog delay as all their Brazillian pilots are trained for a low visibility approach.

Cheers,

Karan

Even ICs A319s and the new aircrafts to come are equipped with CAT IIIB systems and even IC performed on-time flights on the A319 to DEL in the foggy days (only A319 flights)

Well if they operated in fog thats a big plus for them as even pvt giants like Jet werent able to do that. But they need to market themselves well and increase their routes if they want to leave a mark in the aviation industry isnt it ???

Yes ur right airlines like Saudi and Gulf Air have huge fleets but none of their aircrafts except the royal flights have CAT IIIB systems installed

Even the current Kingfisher aircrafts dont have CAT IIIB forget LCCs.

The training for pilots is most difficult i saw one CAT IIIB landing when i flew to DEL last winter.

I sat in the cockpit and believe me the pilot selected auto landing mode and sat with his hands folded as if praying.

Then the aircraft kept on flying I cudn't see the runway and suudenly we were just 450ft above the rwy and the aircraft took us smoothly and touched down-perfect and damn smooth more than even the Instructor pilots.

And the auto pilot shut down after the aircraft's speed dropped to 60 knots and the pilot took over.

I think Paramount would have made a loss on a route like DEL-CJB-MAA or whatever they had because I doubt if there's a big market for high end business travel from DEL to these cities, I guess DEL-BOM or BLR might have been a better choice.

there is too much competition in BOM-DEL sector i feel paramount shud focus 100% on the south indian sectors...that may be enough for their break even

More Paramount Airways flights out of Chennai

T.S. Shankar

To fly thrice-daily services to Bangalore and Hyderabad

CHENNAI : Chennai-based private carrier Paramount Airways has increased its daily flight operations out of Chennai Kamaraj Domestic Terminal to 25 from the present 14 from Thursday.

Increase in frequency

Giving details of the increase in frequency of services Paramount Airways Managing Director M. Thiagarajan told The Hindu that the airline would fly thrice-daily services to Bangalore and Hyderabad. "The new services to Hyderabad and Bangalore will be a boon to link conveniently all the three major Information Technology hubs in South India, " he said.

Speaking on the airline's expansion, which now operates with two 72-seater Embraer jets, Mr.Thiagarajan said with the arrival of a third Embraer jet from Brazil on July 7 to Chennai, the airline would introduce flights to Thiruvananthapuram and Mangalore.

Fleet increase

The increase in fleet would also facilitate the airline to re-introduce flights to Delhi, increase frequencies to Kochi, besides introduce services to Mumbai from Chennai.

Presently, the airline flies to Coimbatore, Madurai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kochi.

Mr.Thiagarajan said the airline had recently signed an agreement with the Amadeus Reservation System, providing hassle free bookings to be made by over 1,600 travel agencies across the country.

He said that with the arrival of the third Embraer jet from Brazil, the airline which was an all `Business class airline' would provide dual seating configuration with 11 First Class seats being introduced.
