Have Jet and Sahara been allotted their flights on DEL-BKK,CCU-BKK and BOM-BKK ? There is no news on this yet and i think AI and IC are utilizing all the current slots to be operated by the Indian side.
In thy dream world I see DEL or BOM having an airport like that. On a side note www.newhyderabadairport.com has a 55MB movie for download with artists impressions of the new airport wid commentary. Worth watching

DON MUANG Airport reminded me of IGIA DELHI in certain ways but then i wud rate that airport a bit better than ours. Offcourse the new airport rivals the SIN and KLIA anyways...
Not much information is available as to when our pvt carriers start operating to BKK. Infact the current exercise is restricted to just mere issuing press statements . Otherwise its really embarrasing to see the vintage aircraft of our flag carriers being operated to these destinations when everyone even garuda uses a better equipment.
Well i was talking in context of the finishing and the fittings of the airport. Offcourse size wise DON MUANG is massive. But if u check the baggage retrievel belts, even duty free. C,mon man dont tell me u like King Power duty free..
Its horrible and rates were funny. I think u get a better duty free from ur AKL, or SYD, or SIN or KLIA
AKLs a small airport but it has a very good duty free selection for its size, which I found was rather surprising. Also, I believe the prices are hiked so any GST gains are nullified

Bangkok’s new international airport, with the world’s largest passenger terminal and tallest air traffic control tower will start operations tomorrow with the arrival of a Mumbai flight. ’Suvarnabhumi’ (land of gold) airport in neighbouring Samut Prakan province will take over from Bangkok’s Don Muang which closes down early tomorrow after nine decades of service.
A Lufthansa cargo plane from Mumbai is scheduled to land at Suvarnabhumi a few minutes after Don Muang shuts down at 3 am (local time) tomorrow. In the pipeline for over four decades and designed by German architect Helmut Jahn, Suvarnabhumi has a single passenger terminal building covering more than half a million square metres. This is about 10,000 sq mt larger than the Chep Lap Kok airport in Hong Kong which till now had the largest passenger terminal in the world.
A 132.2 mt air traffic control tower the world’s highest will guide 76 flights to land and take off every hour on the nearly eight kilometre of runways of Bangkok’s new airport. The tubular tower with a 15-metre diameter has aluminum and glass walls which can withstand wind speeds of up to 200 km per hour and is 10 metre higher than the one at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, which until now was the world’s tallest.
Thailand-aviationFacts about Thailand’s new Suvarnabhumi airport
BANGKOK, Sept 28, 2006 (UNI)
Here are key facts about Thailand’s new Suvarnabhumi airport, which opened Thursday:
-- Suvarnabhumi, which means ‘‘Golden Land’’ in Thai, has been on the drawing board since the 1960s, as repeated changes of government and other delays have hindered its completion. It is located about 25 kilometers (15 miles) east of Bangkok on 3,200 hectares (7,900 acres) of land.
-- The airport will initially serve 45 million passengers annually, with capacity expected to more than double once it becomes fully operational.
-- Construction costs came to 113 billion baht (3.0 billion US dollars), below the 4.9 billion dollars originally budgeted. An additional 15.8 million dollars has been allocated for a budget airline terminal set to open next year.
-- Suvarnabhumi’s seven-floor passenger terminal has 563,000 square meters (six million square feet) of floor space, about 10,000 square meters more than Hong Kong’s Chek Lap Kok airport. Its 132-meter (433-foot) high control tower is the tallest in the world, beating Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s by 10 meters.
-- Planes use two runways, one that is 3,700 meters long and the other 4,000 meters long. A third runway is under construction, with plans in place to eventually build a fourth.
-- The airport can handle 76 flights an hour and service 90 airlines.
-- Passengers can check in at a total of 460 counters, while there are 22 kilometers (13.5 miles) of conveyor belts to handle the tons of luggage transiting each day.
-- Suvarnabhumi also has a 600-room hotel and a catering unit capable of cooking 85,000 meals per day.
-- The airport’s cargo storage center can handle up to three million tons a year, a figure expected to rise to 6.4 million tons annually once completed.
-- The aircraft maintenance center, at 24,300 square meters, is the largest in Asia.

Dude dont underestimate them, they might just come up with something out of the ordinary. They always surprise(although mostly in the unpleasant way). But at the moment I am optimistic.

Lingering problems dim sparkle of Bangkok’s new airport

Flying into Bangkok’s new Suvarnabhumi Airport, there’s enough sparkle to ensure the terminal building lives up to its name, which means ‘‘golden land’’ in Thai. But inside, passengers complain that the magnificent exterior is marred by grimy and inadequate bathrooms, long lines and crowded check-in counters. ‘‘It has gotten dirty already -- not only the toilets, but in general -- even though it’s brand new. It’s poor maintenance,’’ said American property manager Brian Hodde, pointing at rubbish on the floor in a restaurant he just left. ‘‘From outside, it is very impressive. But when sitting here, it looks unfinished as you can see bare concrete ceiling and uncovered coils hanging at the top of the restaurant,’’ the 44-year-old said. The airport authority has said the bare walls are part of the building’s modern design, but with construction still going on in parts of the terminal, the confusion is understandable. And since the airport opened on September 28, complaints have poured in from passengers. ‘‘I was approached by too many taxi drivers stopping me everywhere and asking aggressive questions,’’ said 65-year-old Briton Peter Wood. ‘‘It took me a very long time to walk from the aircraft to the immigration. It is not comfortable,’’ Wood said after arriving from Phnom Penh. Some of the most glaring problems have already been fixed. Computer glitches with the baggage system have been repaired, and signs in the terminal have been improved after complaints they were too confusing to navigate the long halls. Airport of Thailand, which operates Suvarnabhumi, says it will spend 40 million baht (one million dollars) to add 200 toilets to address complaints about the restrooms being too few and too dirty. But less visible problems remain -- including cracks in the runways, noise pollution for the surrounding neighborhoods, and allegations of sexual harassment of flight attendants. AoT has pledged to spend one billion baht to improve security to address the complaints of flight attendants, who said they were groped and stalked by construction workers at the airport. Compensation for the noise pollution is expected to cost seven billion baht so nearby residents can soundproof their homes or move away. ‘‘There is a load of problems to be fixed,’’ Air Chief Marshal Chalit Phukphasuk told the Bangkok Post newspaper, estimating it would take six months to address them all. Deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who was ousted in a coup less than two weeks before the airport opened, had pushed to open the airport months before experts believed it would be ready. But travel agents blame poor management rather than hurried construction for many of the problems, saying service at Suvarnabhumi still lags behind regional rivals like Hong Kong and Singapore. ‘‘Speeding up the completion contributed to the havoc, but poor management since the opening is the main reason,’’ said Suparerk Soorangura, managing director of NS Travel and Tours. ‘‘The management was aware of the problems for some time but so far they have yet to fix them,’’ Suparerk told AFP. He noted that Hong Kong experienced far more serious problems with its cargo and gate systems when its new airport opened in 1998. ‘‘Now, Hong Kong airport is perfect. Don’t even think about Singapore’s airport, which has been long established,’’ he said. ‘‘It will take some time for Thailand to improve our services to compete with those two hubs, even with the world-class facility we have now,’’ said Suparerk, a former president of the Association of Thai Travel Agents. AOT president Chotisak Asapaviriya said that all the complaints were being taken into account and improvements were underway. ‘‘We’re handling over 100,000 passengers and 10 million bags every day, and the new airport is still perfecting its services,’’ said Chotisak.
