Not the matter of partiality and i didn't mean the Sukhois and MiG-29s but what abt the -21s -23s -25s(they're going out now) and even -27s?

Would any country buy these except if they're to be kept in a museum

I guess the current trend is to Improve the Quality of the AF.There would be more purchases soon.

Purchases definately have to be made because we have a aging fleet of -21s -23s and -27s. They have to be replaced but according to all the press releases we have seen the F-16s and F-18s reamin in the top choices also evaluating the options offered by EU we have Dassault Rafale and Eurofighter Typhoon

Unless theres a No Sanctions assurance.We should go for those countries Jets ie Russian & French.The Su30MKI beats the best on offer.But dependin on the role required,The IAF has to decide.

Pardon my ignorance. But exactly how would our airforce compare with foriegn power, ie Pak, China, US, UK, Israel etc?

this wud be a very debative topic...

however my perception

we are nowhere compared to US, UK n Israel

China is stronger interms of total fleet.

Pak is equally stronger but its F-16s are somewhat a major threat to our Su30s but again their fleet is stronger than ours n we even have less Su30s that their F-16s.

The chinese have Quantity & the rest have Quality.

There are several large airforces in terms of combat planes, apart from US, Russia (VVS) and PLAAF (China).

I think French AF is the 4th, followed by IAF. But I could be wrong (only by a bit). JSDF (Japan) , Israel AF, and also Saudi air fleet is large.

But Overall, in terms of equipment, logistics, infrastructure and strike capability, we might be no5.

PAF is no match for IAF-Even their F16s are of the block C types, and that too without spares. Su30 can outfight the F16 in almost all parameters, with its huge Pulse Doppler radar,and thrust vectoring capabilities-Remember we have the Su30MKI (customised for India) multimission aircraft -canard foreplanes et al.

Its like we almost dont need to send Su30 against F16s. If the MiG29s can come into a close tangle, they too will be able to outmaneuver the F16 -technically speaking. The F16 does have somewhat of an edge over the Mirage2000 (only in terms of superior all round sight for pilot thru the glass cockpit, and a better cannon, I believe ?)

But all of this can come to nought at the hands of a bad pilot. As evinced in several air wars, a superior pilot in a relatively inferior plane has been able to outfight the opponent.
