Permalink Closed

Hi All,

Read this story about the accident of SIA Flight 006 in Taiwan after hitting construction equipment on the runway.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singapore_Airlines_Flight_006

It was a Boeing 747-400 and 83 people were killed in the incident

Bad one.

Made a huge hole in SIA's safety record.

They were very ashamed about what happened.

This is common practice among airlines fuelled by paranoia. TWA also did the same thing

But the B747-400 is still the most trusted aircraft

Yup the 747-400 is good! In fact the SQ accident was not the aircraft's fault, but a human error!

The SQ 006 accident is infamous; the Taiwan authorities pointed the finger at the SQ pilots while Singapore Airlines tried to blame the airport lighting system.

Although many people blame only at the crew, they must realise that inadequate airport signs are very very dangerous. Before the accident many other airlines had complained of not only inadequate lighting at the airport but also misleading ground markings if Im not mistaken. I am not saying the accident wasn’t the crews fault, but it demonstrates how many (easily solvable) factors lead to a disaster.

The SQ pilot is supposed to have made his way folowing signs onto a runway that had been closed for repair or was shut.

Many blame the pilot.
