When Airbus UK needed robust, portable kiosks for their new aircraft wing manufacturing facility at Filton near Bristol, one of the companies they contacted was Dicoll. With 30 years experience in touchscreens and 10 years designing and manufacturing kiosks, the company rose to the challenge.
"Airbus wing-maker Airbus UK is working towards its vision of the 'factory of the future' with an IS strategy to have streamlined, fully integrated systems in its manufacturing areas, with data at the fingertips and the right tools for the right job," said an Airbus spokesperson. "With a new wing manufacturing facility being constructed at its Filton site for the A400M military transporter aircraft, various IS options were assessed for installation, ranging from mobile connectivity to strategic data sources. One of these was the use of kiosk PCs at strategic locations along the production line, providing real-time access to production data and feedback on work progress."
An order was placed by Airbus UK for 22 kiosks, which were delivered by Dicoll engineers in November 2005. The first of these went into service on the aircraft wing production line in January 2006.
