GoAir...

A bit old article of Feb 2006 but in BOM where the hell will they park these aircrafts(IndiGo with 100 aircrafts), below the flyover on Western Express Highway?

GoAir, the People's Airline, based in Mumbai, India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for 10 Airbus A320 Family aircraft, plus 10 options to expand services to major business and leisure destinations across the country. GoAir launched services with two leased A320s in November 2005, with a further four leased A320s scheduled to enter the fleet during 2006. All of the A320 aircraft on firm order will seat 180 passengers in an all-economy layout.

The latest A320 order from GoAir serves to highlight the outstanding popularity that the A320 Family has enjoyed with both established and start up low-cost carriers, including in the Asia-Pacific region, over the past few years. Almost 480 A320 Family aircraft are already in service with 38 carriers across Asia-Pacific.

"We are very pleased to have selected the A320 Family for our future fleet requirements. The A320 Family is the preferred choice of all leading Indian operators. This is the beginning of a long term partnership between GoAir and Airbus." said Mr Jeh Wadia, Managing Director, GoAir.

"GoAir epitomises the new spirit of the Indian air transport industry, with its focus on keeping costs low and passengers satisfied. The A320 is the perfect aircraft to meet GoAir’s expectations, with its combination of low fuel burn & maintenance costs, and its well equipped, comfortable cabin" said Airbus President and Chief Executive Officer, Gustav Humbert.

GoAir to sell 15% stake to strategic investors

SAGAR MALVIYA & NEELASRI BARMAN
Posted online: Monday, July 03, 2006 at 0000 hours IST

MUMBAI, JULY 2 :  Nuslia Wadia-promoted low-cost carrier GoAir is offloading 15% equity in favour of strategic investors for an estimated Rs 95 crore.
JM Morgan Stanley, roped in as advisers for the stake sale, has valued the airline at Rs 650 crore, sources close to the development told FE. GoAir has received a few offers from private equity firms as well as local investors, but the airline is yet to take a final decision. GoAir executives refused to comment on the development.

Sources also said, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) chairman Mukesh Ambani was also in talks to buy a part of the stake, although this could not be confirmed. Interestingly, RIL is contemplating setting up a cargo airport at its special economic zone in Haryana, while GoAir is also planning to launch a cargo airline. Coimbatore-based Paramount Airways is the other airline that recently divested 10% stake in favour of India Growth Fund of the Kotak Mahindra group for Rs 70 crore. Sources believe GoAir will use the funds from the stake sale to expand its fleet.

At the Singapore air show, GoAir placed a $1.2-billion order for 20 A320 aircraft.

I too used to continously wonder about the parking of the new aircrafts everytime an airline announced its plan to buy new ones. Where will they park if every airline decides to buy/lease atleast 50 aircrafts?

Good to see Go Air wooing passengers with simple but innovative ideas. Although, a 10% discount may not be much (Rs 150/- for a Rs 1500/- ticket), it surely will attract passengers. Also, with the recent lifting on the ban on travel by govt. employees on private airlines, these passengers will rush to the carrier who offers the lowest fares.

Nothing innovative

just lifted from the public sector airlines. Indian has had such a shceme for ages. But they never made a fuss about it.

In an LCC, it makes it look even greater.

GoAir to ink deal for 20 Airbus jets

NEW DELHI: The Indian tricolour is soaring high in the aircraft shopping market all over again. The Wadia family-promoted GoAir is set to ink an agreement with European aircraft maker Airbus next week to buy 20 A320 jets for a list price of around $1.2 billion.

The agreement would be inked at the Farnborough Air Show next week, sources close to the deal told ToI. The airline, which is already operating with a fleet of leased A320 planes, intends to use the mint-fresh planes to spread its wings in the domestic skies.

Though GoAir had initially planned to place firm orders for 10 planes and keep the option of buy another 10 at a later date, sources pointed out that negotiations are underway to convert even the options into firm orders.

"GoAir has penned an aggressive expansion plan and intends to induct these aircraft to expand into north India and other key metro-to-metro routes," a source said. All the aircraft would be delivered in a single-class economy layout with 180 seats.

GoAir promoter Jehangir Wadia was not immediately available for comments. The family had recently inducted BPL Mobile's Rajeev Chandrashekhar on its board.

Sources pointed out that Chandrashekhar has picked up around 15% stake in airline venture. Besides, GoAir is in talks with a host of other individuals and equity funds to invest in the airline.

Indian carriers have been flying high at global air shows, placing huge aircraft orders. In the recent past, airlines - led by Spicejet, IndiGo, Kingfisher Airlines and Air Deccan - had together placed orders for nearly 200 planes at these events, making India one of the biggest aircraft customers in recent years.

I have flown them three times (total of six flights) and out of these four flights were on time. The remaining two ( including their inaugural BOM-AMD flight) were delayed.

In fact, on one occasion from JAI, we took off five minutes before time!

MEL is right...........I would request fellow forum members to study JFK and BOM airports and see the space available.......

I think when MEL says....LET HOPE GVK succeeds, he means to say that if he can clear the airport of the encroachments and yes make place for parking......

Below an article yesterday referring to a statement by PP saying that he expects the work on the Navi Mumbai airport to commence this year. They are awaiting (within a month) the feedback from ICAO on soil and terrain feasibility report. Apparently they plan to invest 2500cr as start ops and GVK is to get preferrance while bidding.

It will be interesting to see how do they plan to distribute flts between the 2 airport, it was mentioned in the past that they will start with cargo at Navi mumbai, makes sense especially considering 2 SEZs coming up adjoining the airport.

Relax Sir Mel......

Let us gartner these details before we jump to conclusions.....

The new proposed airport is on a salty terrain.

The approach is near to Nhava Sheva and by road from Bombay you take the first left from Kalamboli Junction of the Mahatma Gandhi Hospital and carry on. So the land that you see from the entire U junction from Vashi East right upto Kalamboli Right is the place in question.

The place is owned by many leading politicians, so they are out to make a fast buck.

What about the entry into the city of mumbai as apart from the toll one would have to pay, imagine the octroi. Duty Free would be a thing for the past, imagine haggling with the BMC Octroi Check Naka at Mankhurd......eyow.

The new place has zilch infrastructure but lot of carrots being dished out for misleading the real estate boom there.

About the current and existing place, imagine......the following statements:

The new airport project talk is up since 2001.

Since then a host of hotels, like Grand Maratha ITC, Hyatt, Inter continental would not have come up.

Also the Ambassadors Sky Chef group owns the land exactly opposite its existing base and plans to set up a leading 7 star hotel.

Why did the PM them inagurate the METRO RAIL and release a press statement saying that the METRO RAIL would connect the international airport to give it a connected look.

Why the new taxi stand was built for 30000 thousands....

Why MIAL and all that.....when the govt wants to create a new airport. What will GVK then do....maintain toilets?

Parking bays being increased.....why

A lot of concretisation being done (Not by GVK) but started in early November 05. What for....

Why was 9W told to make a hangar, when this airport is shifting.......or is there a catch?

GoAir gets fourth plane, expands network

New Delhi, Sep 1 (UNI)

Low-cost airline GoAir has taken delivery of its fourth leased aircraft and announced plans to link Delhi with Goa, Bangalore and Pune.

It already connects the national capital with daily flights to Mumbai and Chennai. Across the country, the airline services 13 cities with 37 daily flights.

‘‘We’ll add another three aircraft to our fleet by November-end,’’ said GoAir’s managing director Jeh Wadia. The fleet comprising of 180-seater Airbus A320s will swell to 18 by December 07 and 33 a year later, he said.

GoAir has also placed order for 20 A320s worth 1.6 billion dollars -- 10 confirmed and 10 options.

Its parent company, the Wadia group, and SIA Engineering Company Limited (SIAECL) have signed a term sheet to form a joint venture company to offer maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services in India.

The JV will initially offer line maintenance services at eight major airports for narrow and wide body aircraft, said Mr Wadia.

There are plans to develop the JV into a centre of excellence for airframe maintenance of A320 and B737NG airliners, and the establishment of a leading aerospace engineering training institute.

I don't know about GoAir on BLR/DEL, but Indigo is running at 2199+975 = 3174.oo one way on the BLR/DEL/BLR route. I think only Air Deccan would be cheaper?

GoAir ties up with GTDC to promote Goa as international destination

GoAir ties up with GTDC to promote Goa as international destination

Panaji, Oct 5 (UNI)

The classic low cost airliner GoAir has tied up with the Goa Tourism Development Corporation(GTDC) for further promoting the island state as an international destination.

‘‘We plan to have similar tie-ups with several other touristic states like Rajasthan shortly even as we had entered into an agreement with Kerala to tap the huge aviation sector potential in India,’’ GoAir’s Chief Commercial Officer Raj Alve said.

Announcing the tie-ups and expansion plans at a press conference here today, Mr Raj said the private airline company of the Wadia group would also enter into arrangement with the International Consortium of Travel Agents for promoting tourism in India in general and Goa brand in particular with attractive packages.

Efforts, he said, were afoot now to have a tie-up with Kazakhstan. All packages for promoting Goa would be made available at special counters of the GTDC, hotels, websites, brochures and inflight also.

He also announced commencement of its new flights to and from Goa, the frequency of which would be increased from seven to 14 a week immediately and 21 in next three weeks.

The airlines was also planning to increase the frequency of flights daily to and from Goa and Mumbai. It had already commenced its Delhi-Goa flights earlier this month.

The company had also decided to increase its fleet strength of A320 airbus from existing four to seven shortly and 21 later to serve 13 cities with 193 flights operating weekly. In three years, the fleet strength would touch 33, he informed.

The airlines which started its operations since November 4, 2005 had decided to increase the trips per capita which was as low as 0.01 in India ranking between Ethiopia and Nigeria with much lower GDP, even as the sector was witnessing six per cent annual growth, he said.

Lowering of sales tax on aviation turbun fuel from the existing 24 to 32 per cent, allowing fuel hedging facility to the flight operators for securing aviation fuel at lower rates and construction of 30 more new airports under the public-private partnership route would further promote the aviation sector, he said.

The GoAir at the same time had decided to open Aviation Engineering Institute shortly in collaboration with the Singapore International Airlines Engineering Corpopration (SIAEC) to meet the manpower requirements of the industry.

The main focus of its marketing was on sales through the internet, home delivery of tickets, offering rebates to different segments and promotion through tie-ups both within and outside the country, Mr Raj added.
