Two planes make emergency landing at NSCBI airport


Kolkata, July 28 (UNI)


A Gulf Air airbus-320 and an Indian aircraft made emergency landing at the Netaji Subash Chandra Bose International airport here today.


According to airport sources, the airbus-320 had to return soon after take off owing to technical snag in one of its wings.


The sources said the aircraft with 65 passengers on board took off from hre at 0946 hours for Dubai. But soon after, the pilot noticed one of the flaps of a wing was not opening properly.


The plane returned to Kolkata and landed safely at 0958 hours.


After the defect was repaired, the plane resumed its journey at 1145 hours, the airport authorities said.


Meanwhile, another Agartala bound Indian aircraft also made an emergency landing following some technical difficulty.


The 107 passengers were sent to their destination by another plane immediately, the officials added.

This could have been one of the worst air disasters in recent years. An Air France Cargo and an Air India plane were on a collision course on one of Delhi airport’s runways on Saturday morning. The alert Air-India pilot aborted take-off at the last moment, saving the day and the lives of over 100 passengers and the crew.


The incident took place at 6.40 a.m. on runway 2910. An Air France Cargo plane from Paris had landed on the runway and was rolling towards the taxiway. Before the aircraft could vacate the runway, the ATC cleared Air-India’s flight 746 for take-off. The flight had landed from Dubai and was headed to Lucknow with some 100 passengers.


Sources said the Air France Cargo aircraft was yet to reach the end of the runway when the Air-India flight was asked by the ATC to take off. The aircraft came on to the runway and stepped up its throttle when its pilot spotted the Air France plane.


“The Air-India pilot abandoned take-off. An inquiry has been ordered,” said a spokesperson for the Delhi International Airport Limited.


Officials described the escape as providential. “The pilot aborted the flight at the right moment. It would have been difficult to stop the aircraft if it had gathered momentum,” said an official.


The Air Traffic Control (ATC) has ordered an inquiry into the incident. The report is to be submitted by Monday, the spokesperson said. This will be followed by a Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) inquiry. The DGCA is the body responsible for aviation security in the country.


Sources said it was “clearly the ATC’s fault”. At the Delhi airport, there are two frequencies each for the two runways — a ground frequency and an ATC frequency. One air traffic controller mans each frequency. In the present case, there was no overlap. Both the aircraft were on the same frequency and handled by the same traffic controller. “Two different traffic controllers may have issued the instructions. But even this is unpardonable,” said an official. Was it because of inexperience? The Airports Authority of India had recently inducted a batch of fresh traffic controllers.

New Delhi, July. 30 (PTI): The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has begun an inquiry into an incident in which an Air India aircraft was cleared to take off when another plane was on the runway at the international airport here.

"We have already begun investigations. We are now examining the tapes of conversation between Air Traffic Control (ATC) and the pilots," DGCA chief K Gohain said.

Meanwhile, ATC sources said since there was an incoming aircraft and the cargo plane was taking more time to vacate the runway yesterday morning, the Air India aircraft which was cleared to take off was asked to get off the runway.

DGCA sources said if this is found to be correct then it is a positive step taken by the ATC.

Priority is alway given to aircrafts which are landing. The number of take offs and landings in Delhi and Mumbai airports have gone up substantially in the recent past since the secondary runways have also been made operational.

KOLKATA: An Alliance Air jet with 107 people on board made an emergency landing at the N S C Bose international airport here on Sunday, officials said.


The pilot of the aircraft, which was on its way from Silchar to Kolkata, suspected some technical problem and requested the air traffic control at the airport to arrange for an immediate landing.


The Airports Authority of India (AAI) made all arrangements to cope with any emergency. The fire brigade and ambulances were kept ready for any eventuality but the aircraft landed safely and all its passengers were safe, the officials said.


The aircraft was examined by engineers, they said.


 


Was a 737. Possible fire alarm.

Flight returns after takeoff


Kolkata, Aug 2 (UNI)


A Dibrugarh-bound flight of national airlines ‘‘Indian’’ returned to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) airport soon after take-off this morning following a techinal fault in the aircraft, an airport source said.


The flight, however, resumed its journey with 105 passengers later in the afternoon after the defect was repaired.


Meanwhile, a Gulf Air flight from here was cancelled after a small crack was noticed in a cockpit window of the plane.


An airport official stated that passengers had boarded the aircraft when the crack was discovered.


The flight would be operated tommorow, it was learnt. UNI XC TJP VA RN1924

A Go Air Boeing flight on the Chennai-Pune sector, wih 92 passengers onboard, returned to Chennai after being airborne for over 90 minutes, following a technical snag, airport sources said.
 The flight had taken off at 6.00 AM for its destination. But due to a technical snag, it returned and landed here at 7.35 AM, the sources said.
 After repairs, the flight again took off for its destination at 9.40 AM, the sources said. 


 


Media messed up as usual. Its an A320.

Wow i never knew Go Air operated Boeings


Same once when NDTV news was giving a small event on ICs brand-new A319s they made up a new engine company callen CMF Engines instead of CFM as we all know
