the A320s leased are goin out for sure as new ones come
It wil be against their own new deliveries. Of the 43-new Airbus fleet on order, there will be 4 A320s. These will come in last. Airbus will delivery alternately the A319s and A321s before that.
It will be fun to see IC with a variety of aircraft once the new ones come in - A319s, A320s, A321s, the widebodies (mostly A330s) and A300s if they aren't phased out till then.

Don't forget the 12 leased wide-bodies that IA wants from January 2007 onwards.
I really wonder whether the 42 a/c order by IC is sufficient. It has 18 A320s and 4 A319s on lease. The B737s and A300s will be out by the year end. That leaves it with a fleet of its 30 owned A320s. Out of these, the ones delivered in 1989-90 will be on their way out after 5 years.
That leaves IC with the just the 12 of its present A320s and 42 a/c on order. A fleet size of just 54 a/c.

The A300s are not goin out so soon and the order is for 43 a/c not 42. The B737s will continue as freighters and IC is looking to lease a fleet of 6-10 A320s more (not confirmed but interested)

An airline cannot grow on leased a/c. Even if IC manages to lease more A 320s, they will be quite old. In hope that the merger with AI comes through, then it won't have the need to lease old a/c.
The merger will result into strikes and directives within the airlines the govt. knows it too well...they will have to reduce some ground staff, helpers etc which is not possible b'cos both the airlines if for e.g. they need 2 helpers somewhere they have employeed 10 there (public sector) so its difficult besides both unions want independent working

NEW DELHI: With competition breathing down its neck and marketshare cruising to new lows, the 53-year-old Indian Airlines is on a belt-tightening mission. As a first step, the airline has decided to ground requests — even from government departments — for free upgrades to its business class seats.
The move, airline sources said, is aimed at improving the profile of its business class product besides boosting the revenue stream.
"We had reached a state where a majority of the seats in Business Class were being filled from free upgrade requests — be it from government officials or personal guests of high-profile individuals. We wanted to curb this practice, which was diminishing the value of our premium product," a source said.
This, airline officials said, is part of efforts to improve the look and feel of Indian in the wake of increased competition from new entrants in the domestic skies.
"We had reached a state where almost everyone who could pull a string or two were seeking free upgrades to Business Class. This had started putting the fully-paid premium traveller at an inconvenience as he felt cheated.
He was paying the extra price for a certain amount of privacy and the free upgrades were ruining it. So, we have decided not to entertain such free upgrade requests any more. When the private airlines do not entertain such requests, why should we?" the source said.
Any request for free upgrades, the sources said, are now being dealt with directly by Indian Airlines chairman Vishwapati Trivedi. Prior to this, Trivedi had ordered his overweight cabin crew to shape-up or move out of flight duties.
These are also part of a larger image makeover exercise — under which the crew uniform is being redesigned to include dresses other than the saree — to appear more contemporary for the discerning Indian air traveller. Besides, it will soon be providing independent television screens, along with Live TV feed.
Looks as if Dish TV is gettin a new client..... Moreover IC needs to first restructure itself in order to meet international standards. Adding Innovative IFE's doesn't means a complete change in IC. They need to maintain it too in order to beat their rivals. But man let us not forget that Mr.Mallya doesn't likes to lag behind. He will surely come up with something more innovative, revolutionary..... that will leave IC miles behind... Go VJM Go.....

Actually at present only 2 providers are there for the DTH service. One is DISH and the other is Doordarshan. DISH has a wider choice of channels as compared to DD, but DD offers this service for free... For the timebeing DISH rulz.... but Tata and Star TV are 2gether coming up with a DTH service. BTW Dish is owned by Zee.
How do u know any links of the report? Or did u got this information from one of ur acquaintance working in IC.
