With the delivery of the 43 new Airbus planes, Indian will make several changes for the entertainment of the passengers, as well as changes in crockery, galley facilities and toilets, upgrading them to a more classy atmosphere. According to one news report quoting a reliable source, "We will have seatback-mounted TV screens on every economy seat and arm-rest screen in the executive class. These systems will be installed in every new Airbus plane that will be delivered as part of the 43-aircraft purchase plane cleared recently by the government," and added, "We will also provide a facility for Live Satellite TV feed on-board the aircraft. This will redefine service standards in the domestic skies."

It is about time, as the interior design changes have to be fixed. The new planes are to be built soon, and all this has to be sorted out much much earlier.
(Boeing has alreasy released the pictures of the Air India Express 737s. In that picture there were two --- one behind the other with just the winglets painted in those pink stripes which are on the main body.)
The live satellite TV feed is from:
Doordarshan!
Tests are being conducted on an Airbus A320, with Doordarshan DTH, according to IA chairman Dr. Vishwapathi Trivedi. Incidentally, it is here that he mentioned that IA is looking for 12 wide-bodied jets mainly for a service into London by 2007. He said he was confident that they would get the planes. He also went on about the unique change in identity and the new IA colour scheme.
Which is what the next point is. If he is going ahead with this independent plan and then talking about the unique and new identity, is there going to be any merger with AI? There are more clues in the IA website --- at clearly establishing the new IA look and the organisation, especially after talk about a merger. And it is hardly a thing to do if there is to be a 100% merger soon.
It is only when the Air India chief and IA chief start talking like this that you begin to wonder.
With a merger underway, and with AI in charge of deciding what the course of action is, it seems a bit strange.
AI chief Mr. Thulasidass has gone back to the old talk of a 68-jet fleet.

Meanwhile, the old lady in the Indian skies, Indian Airlines, plans to install IFE on the new aircraft that it's acquiring from Airbus though the first aircraft that is due to arrive in November, will not come equipped with IFE.
But it's hoping that IFE will be installed in all its aircraft by 2007. V Trivedi, CMD, Indian Airlines says the "new aircraft will be fitted with the latest in-flight entertainment system. We are also looking to provide satellite TV on board."
IA sleeping as usual. Will cost it an additional amount now, as it is an extra fitment.
IMO IFE makes a lot of sense only on flights of two hours or more. For flights of around one hour (e.g. BOM-GOI, BOM-AMD, BLR-MAA, etc), one can hardly get to enjoy the IFE. But yes, even on short flights, things like the fwd looking camera and Route indication will be nice to have.
IA is thinking big. This time it is live satellite feed as IFE.
An A320 is undergoing trial to receive Doordarshan DTH. After this IA will make up its minnd about the rest of the fleet. This was according to Dr. Vishwapathi Trivedi.

12-year-old aircraft! I think it was with British Airways earlier.
Along with the other A319s it is also on lease
ICs A319s are supposed to come in November this year but if the management decides then they will give the new A319s to the leasing agency but all the A320s leased are goin out for sure as new ones come
I think this aircraft is being flown to SIN
