This must be one of the best moments in Indian aviation. Not funny at that moment, but later, you really get a stomach ache --- laughing so much!

"I have bomb on my mind": passenger; flight evacuated

May 21, 2006 (Agencies)

New Delhi: "I have a bomb on my mind," an Italian woman told her co-passenger onboard the Indian Airlines flight to Ahmedabad in  leading evacuation of the aircraft, which had several high-profile travellers. This happened on May 21, 2006

Valentine Gatter-Meier (30) was under medication and having a splitting headache and her crouching posture raised suspicions and a miscommunication about the "bomb on her mind", police sources said here today.

Gatter-Meier was interrogated jointly by a team of Intelligence Bureau, CISF and Delhi Police officials and found to be innocent, they said she was let off later.

"The woman was under immense tension because of her medical condition and muttered the words to her curious co-passenger, who suspected something fishy due to her tense brows," the sources said.

The stunned co-passenger immediately alerted the air-hostess. The luggage of the woman and other passengers was re-checked and identification of passengers was confirmed again.

The plane, carrying Gujarat Governor Nawal Kishore Sharma, Textiles Minister Shankarsinh Vaghela, Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Anil Kakodkar, among others, took off following clearance from security agencies, after 9:00 p.M., a good three hours behind schedule.

RE: "Bomb on my mind" --- funniest moments in Indian aviation- A serious accident remembered

Well reminds me when a BOMB actually cuased a major accident on a domestic flight.

TRV TRZ MAA - Indian Airlines B 737 200 (reporduced from www.b737.org.uk)

*****

26 Apr 1979; VT-ECR, 737-200 Adv, 20962/380, Del 28/10/74, Indian Airlines; Madras, India:

On its way from Trivandrum to Madras, the aircraft was cleared to descent from FL270. Shortly afterwards an explosion took place in the forward lavatory, causing a complete instrument and electrical failure. The aircraft had to make a flapless landing at Madras. The aircraft touched down 2500ft past the Runway 25 threshold and overran. The right side of the plane caught fire. PROBABLE CAUSE: "Detonation of an explosive device in the forward lavatory of the aircraft. The aircraft overshot the runway due to high speed of touchdown, non-availability of reverse thrust and anti-skid system due to systems failure from explosion."

****

If I remember correctly - all survived.

I still have vivid memories of reading about this accident as a small kid- lot of publicity at that time in my home town.

Kerala-bound plane turns back due to snag, Indians disappointed

Dubai, June 24

About 130 Indians, mostly from Kerala, who had won a free trip to the state, had to face disappointment when their chartered aircraft had to turn back after 20 minutes in the air because of a technical snag.

They were the winners of the several contests organised by the popular Malayalam radio channel, Hit FM, over the week to celebrate its second anniversary.

They were to celebrate their win at the famous Silver Storm Water Theme park in Athirappilly near Cochin.

The plane, which took off from Dubai at 0130 hrs yesterday, was forced to make an emergency landing due to a technical snag.

An official of Hit FM assured the winners that the management would explore the possiblility of organising the trip again.
