Sahar was definately a better name but govt wanted to remember all heros so that they can also be used politically
So Chhatrapati Shivaji was the name given
I am surprised, the Shiv Sena has not yet demanded that the IATA code for Mumbai be changed to something like CSI or CSM. Good for Mumbai that these apt codes have already been alloted.

The Indian Govt can apply for a change in IATA code for Mumbai if it wishes. And if we have a BJP govt. at center, the SS can arm twist it to apply for code change.
Interestingly the BJP & SS are splitting their Alliance in Maharasthra.
regds
MEL
Not anymore compromise talks have stopped them splitting.
By the way do any regular flyers find any difference in BOM airport these days? Heard a lot of change has taken place especially in the 9W-DN-S2,etc terminal

Last flew from that terminal (1B) in the second week of September. The second half of the departure terminal has opened thereby doubling the number of check-in counters. The 9W check-in counters have therefore shifted to this newly opened half.
There is a new entry gate which has also opened and it too has space for ticket counters for future expansion/new airlines.
This new area also has a lounge but it was not operational when I was there. Maybe it hasn't opened yet.
The bottleneck is once again the security check and the departure hold. The number of security checkpoints still remains the same and the departure hold is also of the same size. Because of this, there is a long queue for the security check and the departure hold gets really crowded. It is impossible to get a seat there especially during the peak hours.
Here are the things that are urgently needed at Terminal 1B:
1) More security checkpoints
2) A bigger departure hold
3) A multi-cuisine restaurant in the check-in area
4) A restaurant/extra food stalls post check-in/security check
5) Finally, a qood quality lounge for premium passengers

Yeah but then we need affordable food stalls not the ones who sell samosa at 100 rupees per piece If they want to develop the food courts then the prices have to be at par with whatz normally available in the market and i believe thats the normal global norm
Well Samosas sell here in BOM for around 50 rupees for two pieces, not 100
Anyway, I have always observed that food is often served more expensive at airport outlets rather than in city restaurants. I saw this at BKK, KUL and even CMB, not to mention all airports in India! The exception to this is of course branded outlets like Mc Donald's, KFC, etc. These have standard prices throughout the city.
I agree with the point that its high time outlets like Mc Donald's, Pizza Hut, etc open up at Indian airports. Mc Donald's had even opened an outlet at Mumbai Central railway station. Don't know why they are staying away from airports!

Pictures look neat--what is the shape of the terminal designed to represent--but one thing the way the jetways and the extended parking spaces arre built makes it difficult to accomodate international and domestic aircraft all in one huge place.
Also with the way the current airport is constructed how do they plan to implement the new terminal parking bays.
If GVK can get rid of the paan stains on that cheap chipped marble and get rid of that special arrival greeting scent of piss and phenol, it will be a miracle.
One thing I didnt like about the design is the T-pier in front of the main terminal building. It will mess up the entire view of aircraft landing, taking-off or taxiing on Runway 27.
They should have atleast thought about providing a decent observation deck.
aint nothin but fancy renderings... only time will tell just how similar the real thing will look (if any) I am not getting my hopes up... btw, has GMR's photoshop department come up with anything for DEL yet?
No my dad was passing by and he saw the fire trucks in their excerise so he clicked from the mobile camera
By the way the excerise was under guidance of foreign fire fighters and our airport pandus have finally got better trucks and equipment. Now as per what people say the maximum response time within airport is not more than 1min 30 seconds
Quite impressive
