with outbound traffic increasing faster than


inbound traffic


�� Preference for direct point to point services


�� Increasing proportion of direct flights / traffic


to/from MAA, BLR, HYD, CCU, COK, Nagpur


etc. resulting in passenger traffic by-passing


AI’s hubs at BOM/DEL


�� Growing Indian middle class – able to afford


air travel


�� Real airline yields have fallen by one-third in


the past decade


�� Quantum increase in scale of competition –


liberalization of bilaterals and permission for


private airlines to operate on international
