MUMBAI: Richard Branson-promoted Virgin Atlantic Airways is interested in investing in the Indian civil aviation sector once the Union government relaxes regulations for foreign airlines to pick up stake in domestic carriers.
According to civil aviation policy guidelines, no foreign airlines are allowed to buy stake in Indian carriers. "But the policy allows Richard Branson as an individual to invest in Indian carriers as the government allows FII up to 49 per cent in the aviation sector," market sources said.
how about SRB picking up stake in Kingfisher? Will VM like that?
This article also mentions talks between SRB and Cap.Gopnath. If that goes through, do you think Air Deccan will changes its structure and become more like VS?
I am surely against the concept of LCC in india because at any given day if u compare the fares between the full service carriers and the LCC,s there is hardly any difference. And seriously speaking i am of those types who wouldnt mind paying 200-500 rupees extra if that can led u to a nice wholesome meal aboard the aircraft and a nice inflight magzine to kill your time. And even if some people comment that 500 bucks or so is outrageous for food i wud like reminding them that its a part of hospitality service sector so you are paying for the service and the environment..
DN has been good for indian aviation because they have opened up those flying corridors which we would have never dreamed of using their ATR
SG on that other hand is providing a standard in LCC,s with high reliability which is yet to be seen in DN who have been notorious for dumping their pax whenever some problems have arisen.
SRB investing in SG Do u think the kasangra ( is that the NRI promoting the airline?) will allow that to happen. This guy thinks he is sitting on a golden egg laying hen why would he bail out when things are looking good for Spice Jet
The DN IPO is set to open in the Indian market on May 15th. It is always possible that the Branson can have one of the FII's pick up stake in the airline on his behalf.
PS: I am not an IPO expert and dont know what is the extent of the stake a FII can pickup through this IPO. Would love to hear from any experts on the forum.
But looking at Vijay Mallya's ambitions, I doubt he would let Virgin pick up a stake in Kingfisher Airlines. In fact, if things go his way, he would go ahead and acquire smaller carriers in the US or Europe. He has really grand plans and the necessary financial might to become another Virgin Atlantic!
I too think that Branson would be interested in Spicejet or Go Air.
