Rickshaws at IGI Delhi Airport

Is it just me, or do others also find the cycle rickshaws being used at the construction sites within Delhi Airport, odd? I mean, DGCA has all sorts of circulars about "runway intrusions" and how to talk to ATC, and here we have cycle rickshaws transporting men and material!! With little children playing nearby, or moving bricks.


I asked the Corp Comm person for DIAL, Arun Arora (ex-MUL . . .) and his response was that they have signs up banning child labour.

Child labour is rampant in the Capital.


I guess DIAL can do little about it.

Child labour is rampant in the Capital.


I guess DIAL can do little about it.



hmmmmm, or rather DIAL do little about it, im sure they CAN do something about it!

Well, with help from A380, I have some photos of the GMR-DIAL airport rickshaws at IGI up on the "aviation photography" pages here.


I will now look for bullock carts, elephants, and fishing boats, and try to snap their photos too.

hi Malik
saw your photos in another thread about rickshaws right besides the plans.  Truely pathetic scene.  Is there a possiblity of using RTI act in such situations?  Can we seek explanation from authorities regarding what is happening?

Its surprising.Even at BOM there is massive Airport construction work in progress but the Transport is Automative & with necessary Signs/Lights.


Im surprised that this is occuring.

I guess I shall use the RTI route for this. Though I did not see any rickshaws at DEL yesterday 12th December'06 (fog, late evening eventual actual departure etc.)


We've seen a full Delhi Metro being built above, on and underground in Delhi, and never did we see any rickshaws, or child labour for that matter.


I shall try and upload the photos I have up on my flickr pages, interim can request 380 or anybody else to please take a look and bring here whatever they find interesting.

 I have seen the pics just wondering hw are they potraying child labour. All i can see is small child probably 4-5 years of age standing besides the mom. It wouldnt be correct to call him as a toddler as he is very much standing on his feet. Bt i guess we all are aware that often these female labourers carry their dependents to the worksite.
