Renault to built auto plant in India with Mahindra
Paris, Nov. 9, 2006 (UNI)
French car-maker Renault has signed an agreement with the Indian manufacturer Mahindra to construct a plant in India that will ultimately produce some 400,000 vehicles a year, Renault said Thursday.
The agreement is part of a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two companies to establish a long-term strategic partnership in India, and grew out of a joint venture to sell the low-cost Renault Logan in India beginning early next year, Renault said in a press statement. The new plant, which will include a car-assembly factory, is to produce a variety of models tailored to the Indian market.
The site for the plant will be announced in the near future. Renault head Carlos Ghosn said the agreement represented ‘‘an excellent opportunity for the development of Renault in India. Our growth in one of the most dynamic markets in the world is essential for our commitment to growth abroad.’’ Malinda reported turnover of about 3 million dollars last year, making it one of India’s 10 largest industrial companies. In 2005, Renault sold more than 2.5 million vehicles for revenues of 41.3 billion euros (52.8 billion dollars).
when will these French learn. If you look from the very begining they were ready to roll out that ancient Citreon along with Maruti. Thankfully they didn't. After that they came out with dated Peogeot 406. It seems Carl Goshn, has tought them well.
Its strange to note that some MNC's still think older models will sell in India, not realizing how savy Indians have become over the years for quality and style.
Renault has very good looking cars called Megane which are quite popular here in Singapore. I think they should launch that instead of the Logan.
