if it is just to BRU, then it is half baked attempt.  Not entirely their fault, as their US route is still blocked.  One wonders if there are any opportunities towards East.

IMO BRU doesn't have such a good load factor. Flights maybe at the frequency of 3-4 a week not more.

Besides 9W has to deploy its A343X which will come back soon from Gulf Air

Do they have plans for Canada?
They can really fill their pockets on BOM-BRU-YYZ.

few points!

  • Start BOM-YYZ direct (not necessarily non-stop) before AC gets its B772LRs.  Currently, they have YYZ-ZRH-DEL, with code share with Swiss for ZRH-BOM.  Both ZRH and BRU don't have much traffic to either YYZ or DEL/BOM, its just end to end flyers who matter.

  • Will the current India-Canada bilateral allow this?  Somebody please throw light on this.

Jet may start direct flights between Mumbai and Brussels
Mumbai, Nov 7 (UNI)

Private carrier Jet Airways may soon be launching a direct flight between Mumbai and Brussels to tap the huge passenger traffic between India and Europe.
A decision regarding the flight services will be taken soon and expected to be announced ‘in the next few weeks’, a top Belgian official has said.
‘‘We had a very effective talk with Jet top officials in Mumbai today where plans regarding the flight were also discussed,’’ Secretary of State Vincent Van Quickenborne told reporters here on the sidelines of the inaugration function of Belgian visa application centre.
When contacted Jet Airways Executive Director Saroj Datta declined to comment on the issue.
Earlier, during the Annual General Meeting, Jet Airways Chairman Naresh Goyal told shareholders that the airline plans to connect several European destinations and the share from the International revenues would be close to 40 per cent of Jet’s revenues in the next couple of years.
About the trade relation between India and Belgium, Van Quickenborne said the direct trade between both the countries have crossed USD one billion last year and ‘‘Belgium is the third most favoured investment destination for Indian companies after US and UK.’’
Vincent is touring India along with the country’s PM and deputy PM on a ‘‘mission’’ of attracting investments from India.
‘‘Apart from the diamond industry, Indian companies can also invest in other sectors like pharma and infotech. During our meeting with the Indian prime minister, we offered our expertise in newer energy systems,’’ he said.

Am trying to suggest some info here

Traffic right is a matter between sovereign states. This is discussed, prepared on ambassador level, with the Ministry of Foreign Affaires and technical supprt of the Aeronautical departments of both countries. The same goes for maritime, with an other department.

When the states have an agreement, each state has one or more designated carrier to fly between the countries.

Other freedoms can be negotiated: India can grant traffic right to Belgium beyond a point in India, eg to BKK. Belgium can reciprocate with traffic rights to Canada for India. The next step is for Belgium to negotiate with Thailand, and India to negiotate with Canada.

Not simple, but it works. You will have understood that Thailand will ask Belgium some freedoms, and Belgium will ask Thailand to recprocate again, and so on. The states that reciprocrate a lot, have a nice portofolio of traffic rights.

Some countries used to limit the freedoms, in order to protect their national carrier. Now we understand that this can be detrimental in a global market. Who has lots of freedoms, can grant lots, who has nothing, is dying.

Although it is not intended as such, states can not organise a freedoms market.
But designated carrier(s) of one state can allow carrier(s) of the other state to operate more flight than the freedom allows. In fact they go into a pool or joint venture, aka code share.
eg Nigeria sold its freedom to foreign operators, when it was not operating to their country. The fee paid for using that freedom, is called 'royalty'.

Many of these practice are illegal, and are subject to cartel-investigations.

And i presume Jet flies to USA because it has confirmed its 777-3.. orders and started their payment or will start soon.

9W management must have told Boeing that if they are not cleared for the US then they might cancel their orders. This is a very common thing that takes place. And Boeing must have got the matters of security cleared for 9W and needless to say Jet must have heavily bribed many people in the US authorities.

So this is one of the ander ki baat. I am sur of this bcos this is quite a old tactic

I highly doubt that Jet Airways Bribed anyone in the Department of Homeland Security and DOT....responsible for clearing it's name.

Although I would not be surprised if Boeing leaned on teh govt a little to speed up things.  But i have full confidence 9W is innocent.

I know i might be too young to say this hence my apologies.

But maybe you dont seem to know about these airline politics. I have read some articles on these type of cases. Also have spoken to many people into the field directly and indirectly.

I have no personal problems against 9W starting flights to the US. But such things are quite common. Money really talks a lot. This talk would have never managed to go forward until 2050 also. Money can influence all of them.

Do you think VJM can be given a "donation" of flying intl even before he completes 5 yrs? Nah its only money. 9W and even S2 have literally "paid" for getting intl routes of their choice. Or else they would have been flying to Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan (they do fly these routes ofcourse). Their intl wud have been restricted to such routes only.

It is clear that a process which charged 9W against involvment with a person in UN's Wanted List and banned them from flying into their country and all of a sudden you wake up to a news that they are cleared to fly US and charges have yet not been publicly declared out that 9W is not a threat.

Humble apologies for being rude to you vmgopal

If

Sabena Technics: Belgium --> 9W gets a easier go into Belgium

Then

Boeing:USA -->9W pressurizes boeing to ask US govt to allow them into the US.

Hope this made it clear
