i was at the intl terminal 2A at bom las nite... dropping my elder brother as he was returning back to canada... he took the northwest flight which had this routing: DTW-AMS-BOM-AMS-CDG-DTW.... yesterday he was told by the staff that he wouldnt be able to go from AMS-CDG because he needed a particular visa and that this usually happens to people who boook online !!!! then after some time they put him on a direct flight from AMS-DTW but the only problem being the transit time was only 80 mins!!! well this is what happened to my brother.... yesterday itself NW had overboooked all its buisness class seats... why? because some 'VVIPs' where travelling so allllll the passengers were either downgraded or put on other flights!!! i think NW really needs to look at all these things.... one more thing... he was the ONLY passenger who had problems checking-in online even NWs call center tried but couldnot... which pised my brother of even more... he was able to catch the other flight as his fight from BOM landed in AMS at 6:09am instead of 6:45am... rite now he is on the AMS-DTW sector in-flight on a A330-300... also... since the new rule states that Flights into US will allow 23kgs/bag n 2 bags are allowed... at the check-in desk at BOM he was told they they would charge Rs.1170/- flat rate per bag to increase the allowance to 32kgs!!!!! wich he ahd to pay for one bag since his bags were 25kgs n 28kgs... the employee at the desk said dat he would allow till 25 but has to pay for one bag!!!

its a standard rule.... effective Nov1 2005... for us atleast...

ECO - 2 bags 23kgs each.... totals 46kgs (upto 25 we dont bother)... more than that is charged per bag 50USD at the conversion rate that the airline calculates and not market rates. the bags can be increased to a max of 32kgs

Business - remains unaffected... old rules in effect still (again i speak for LH's policy)... 2 bags 32kgs each... though no leeway on anything more than 32kgs...

and if the passenger is a STAR GOLD/HON/SENATOR... he is allowed one extra piece of 32kgs (if in business) to the states... otherwise 23kgs if in eco...
