Wonder what routes they will put it on, perhaps the India-SIN routes.

Karatecatman, i dont doubt the routing information you said, but would not it be better to use them on the India-SIN/KUL legs as IMO flights less than 2 hrs do not warrant IFE especially the AVOD kind.

Also how many 737s are 9W updating with the IFE -- i guess its the previous order for 10 737-800s which they placed in 2005.

Also any idea of the flight numbers they will be used on for BOM-DEL

Hey Karan,

Obviously it makes more sense to put the IFE in the flights toSIN/KUL. But I think initially Jet is using these on the domestic routes to counter IT's superior offering in the same routes.

But Im sure later they will put them on the SIN flights as well.

Cheers

Yes, I agree with you, but 9W seems to be keen on combatting Kingfisher. It is also after seeing how succesful Kingfisher has been in getting ranked a 4-star airline and in offering premium service.

From what the Jet management says, these seem to be dedicated aircraft to these routes. So should be used early morning, mid-day and night. Yes, it is also on the fleet of 10 they had ordered.

Singapore seems to have this facility already with DVDS.

Here is the detailed guide:

Touch screen technology.
An innovative moving map.

Comedy and Drama | A choice of comedy shows from Office Office to Friends. The best in international and national crime shows, from Numbers to C.I.D.

Cuisine | Rick Stein discovers local French recipes. Chef Sanjeev Kapoor lays out a Shaadi Ki Daawat.

Music | From Bollywood hits to classical melodies, international pop, jazz and English, Hindi & Punjabi music videos.

Just rechecked the Jet website.

This is what it says for IFE for Singapore and KL:

Seat Configuration for 737.
Club Première:  No. of Seats 16, Seat Pitch 58 inch
Economy Class: No. of Seats 124, Seat Pitch 32 inch

Sky Screen – Non-stop in-flight entertainment.
On board, tune into Sky Screen – our in-flight entertainment programme. It offers a wide selection of movies, music videos, games, short programmes and 8 audio channels. We also have a variety of newspapers and magazines from around the world to help you catch up with the latest in business and current affairs. And since each seat has a personal adjustable ‘reading’ light, you can read without disturbing your co-passenger when cabin
lights are dimmed.

So is that like the ones that AI have in their F? Reasonable temporary solution I guess. But then it should be changed to AVOD at the first impression

This is really good news for the passengers (especially on the evening/night flights). Would be icing on the cake if they could stream live TV as well - I can imagine all the ladies (and half of the men), sitting and watching the (miserable) soaps that dominate TV these days!

That being said, this further illustrates the importance of competition. Despite a severe pressure on the bottom line 9W has been forced to add some facilities for the good of the passengers. I always shudder when I think of how 9W and IC have looted the Indian public for so many years. thank god for a little competition!

A simple example of how airlines in INDIA are on a kamakazi mission.

The single aisles operate for max 3+ hrs and there is no requirement to pamper pax with unwanted gimmicry. On short sectors (irrespective of Dom/Itl) price is the only diff factor and DN is a standing example of this inpite of its poor on time record. Inspite of all the inflt entertainment, Jetblue hasn't been able to chip in at SW rev till date. Easyjet and Ryanair don't offer these as yet. Though ryan is looking at offering Internet.

A physical seat is purely a mechanical device, the more avionics you add to it increases your op cost.

Good for 9W they were unsuccesful in operating their A330 on dom but they cudnt as the aircraft was deployed in the ATQ-LHR leg.

They can finally compete with IT and IC in the coming years. I also heard that they were planning to upgrade their 734s

Any info

One would think that 9W may wish to look at reducing costs instead of notching them up. IFE for domestic pax!!

Just come off a BLR-DEL flight on Indigo, and as far as I am concerned, the new generation ozone filters that their A-320s have as well as the practice of leaving the overhead hatracks free for passengers does it for me far better than IFE.

(this ozone filter thing, I am told, is only on the newer 320s?? and as for the hatracks, ever seen how the front and rear hatracks are always filled up with crew stuff and aircraft stuff?)

I think you've left your comment incomplete, I can't make much sense of it
