KOCHI: Mumbai bound Jet Airways flight from here was delayed following a bomb scare.
According to an official at the Nedumbassery airport, a passenger of the flight 9W 404, bound for Mumbai claimed that he was carrying a bomb as the plane was preparing for the take off.
All the 91 passengers in the plane were offloaded and the aircraft was thoroughly checked by airport authorities with the help of police, the official added.
Flight detained after passenger claims he has explosives

A Mumbai-bound Jet Airways flight was detained at the Nedumbassery international airport here this evening after a passenger on board claimed to be in possession of explosives. The flight, with 91 passngers on board, scheduled to depart here at 1550 hrs, left at 2110 hrs after a thorough check of the aircraft by security personnel found the man’s claim false. Airport sources said that security personnel, with the aid of a bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs, checked the aircraft and finally cleared it to proceed towards its onward destination. The passenger, Joseph alias Fischer, an Indian national, who was reportedly disallowed to carry some gel items while boarding, told an air hostess that he was in possession of some explosives. The pilot was informed about it and security personnel swung into action. All the passengers and their luggage were immediately off-loaded and a thorough inspection was carried out, the sources said. One Saji Kurien of Ernakulam District, working as a male nurse in Uganda, was also taken into custody as Joseph had come here as his guest, the sources said. After questioning by security personnel, both passengers were handed over to the police, the sources added.
