The Airbus A380 takes off from Toulouse on first passenger flight 4 September 2006
The Airbus A380 took off from Blagnac International Airport in Toulouse at 09:58 am local time this morning with 474 passengers on board for the first in a series of four long flights or “Early Long Flights”. During the flights, the passengers, comprised of Airbus employees and cabin experts, will put the cabin through its paces. The Early Long Flights are an important step towards the A380’s entry into service. Though not part of the technical certification programme, these flights allow Airbus to assess the cabin environment and systems in flight ahead of final certification ensuring that airlines will benefit from a fully mature aircraft on delivery. Four Early Long Flights will be performed from Toulouse this week lasting seven hours, ten hours, twelve hours and fifteen hours respectively, with one night flight, to cover all types of flight conditions. The shorter flights are being routed around Spain, France, the UK and Germany. Passengers on the longer flights will be flown further afield – to Norway in the North and as far South as the Canary Islands.

Mr Heinen has until now lead the Single Aisle Programme, and previously headed the Airbus Delivery Centres in Toulouse and Hamburg. He joined Airbus in 1999 coming from Lufthansa Technik, where he served as General Manager Aircraft Maintenance. New Head of the Single Aisle Programme is Alain Flourens (49), currently Executive Vice President and Head of Airbus’ Centres of Excellence (COEs). The Heads of the COEs will, from now on, directly report to the Executive Vice President Operations Karl-Heinz Hartmann (55). This flattens the management structure by removing one reporting level. He reports directly to Airbus CEO, Christian Streiff.
Airbus to announce further A380 delays: report Wed Sep 20, 2006 2:41 AM ET
PARIS (Reuters) - European aircraft maker Airbus should announce further delays in the deliveries of its A380 superjumbo planes in the next few days, French business newspaper Les Echos reported on Wednesday.
Airbus had already announced delays in June which sent its stock into freefall and prompted the ousting of Airbus' chief executive and that of Noel Forgeard, co-chief executive of the company's parent EADS <EAD.PA>.
"According to our information, the assembly problems at the Toulouse-Blagnac plant would not allow it (Airbus) to hold to its last pledge of delivering at least nine aircraft in 2007 (against 25 initially planned)," the paper said without citing sources.
Les Echos added that the new schedule could be revealed before the next board meeting of EADS on September 29.
It said Airbus could announce a delay of at least six months for the first deliveries to clients such as Air France <AIRF.PA> and only four deliveries next year to Singapore Airlines <SIAL.SI> and Emirates.
