Not sure about TOI's source, but this was supposesd to be a major factor when Air India Express was "deciding on" the Airbus A320 versus the Boeing 737.

Both Manufacturers claim the contarary.

Remember A320s use CFM56Bs & V2500s.

B737s use P&WJT8D-9/9A/15/15A/17/17A/17R,CFM56-3B & CFM56-7C.

Very true as HAWK21M states, it is not a simple case of apples for  apples. It is over diff missions i.e. payload, Hrs, terrain, weather conditions.

I think, Its best to post these type of Q in the tech-ops forum.

If you personally ask me ....then B737 is better than the A320 but if you ask me statistically, the latter takes the cake.

Something like if the B737 is efficient then the A320 is effective.....

Well the Jumbo Jet is always called the QUEEN OF THE SKIES.....so i guess now with the A380 (The King of the skies) its time that Boeing marries Airbus

On my numerous cockpit visit and chats with 2 IC commonders who live near by, they said that the A320 burns 3 tonnes of fuel an hour.

The A300 burns 6 tonnes of fuel--she also said that it was her favourite aircraft to fly as it was very sturdy.

The A310 burns 5 tonnes of fuel an hour. [Average on all routes for pax configured aircraft ]

They are only the average rates and as MEL said that they vary with temperature, load factor, etc.

BTW the A300 is still one of the favourites of many commanders. I have flown about 5 times in the cockpit of the A300
