the Navi Mumbai plan is utter stupidity...... its too far away to make any sense to those who fly in for business.. corporates are not gonna be very happy.

Also, the road from navi mumbai to mumbai is too bad. Maybe, they should start a helicopter service between the 2 airports (if navi mumbai airport is built).
on any God damn day barring a sunday... it takes you a good 2hrs if not more to drive from a hotel at Nariman Point to the International Airport.
i dont even wanna bother computing the factor between Navi Mumbai and Nariman Point. Granted there will be some who will arange for the meetings at the hotels near the Navi Mumbai airport.... but for the area to really develop and to offer the same amount of connectivity and business interlining and facilities as the actual proper city... is like developing an entire new city around the new airport
1) Build a parallel runway by relocating the AI/9W hangars
2) Capitalise on the existing land available (relocating slums, etc) to build additional parking bays and taxiways
3) Expand and modernise the International Terminal (possibly merge both Domestic & International terminals in one huge building to allow easy transfers)
4) Build a Metro train link from the airport to an existing(in the future) Metro rail link e.g. the Versova-Ghatkopar line.
The Airport at Navi Mumbai will be ready by 2010.Thats the Decision of the meeting held recently at BOM between Airline operators,GVK & the concerned rest.
The Parallell runway plan is scrapped,as its not feasable due govt advice & objections by Airllines having Hangars in the Area concerned.
