Advice for UK trip
Permalink Closed

Well, this had to crop up NOW when I was to fly from DEL to LHR on 16th.
I would be grateful for advice on the following from experienced travellers:

1) The flight is at 0200. Normally one should reach the airport by 2300. (Can't say whether online checking will be available). In view of the added security, what do you feel is a safe time to reach DEL?

2) It appears that the "no hand baggage except a plastic bag" rule is being implemented for BA and other flights from India to UK. This means that items like a camera and video camera will have to be checked in rather than carried in hand baggage. Has anyone had experience of damage or theft of items checked in on flights from India to UK? Do you feel it is safe to check in these items?

Thanks in advance.

Yes ba.com says that online check-in to/from all flights from London Heathrow/Gatwick has been suspended.

Reaching at the airport at around 2300 will be fine as British Airways have their separate entry gate into the terminal and have their own X-Ray machines. So 3 hours are enough for that.

According to ba.com,those passengers connecting to flights from Heathrow are not allowed to take hand luggage. But if your journey terminates at London Heathrow, then you are allowed a hand luggage.Though i wont recommend you to take a video camera with you.Its safe to get your camera and other items booked.

Well I did the same flight as your's on 18 July.So its safe to get your valuable stuff booked and just get your suitcase a FRAGILE tag at check-in time.

Cheers,

Mayank

Thanks for your comments.
Indeed, the BA website implies that hand baggage is allowed but when I called up BA at DEL airport they said it wasn't. As it often happens in India, what is written and what actually goes on is different.

Well good news for you as BA's online check-in is up and running again. That's what I found on their India website.
