NEW AIRPORTS-DREAM vs REALITY
Permalink Closed

hey guys

What do u think will we actually see the light of the day when the so called 'NEW' Delhi and Mumbai airports will open up and air travel in india will again go through a similar crises but this time due to infrasturcture issues.

Every now and then we get to hear these flash strikes by AAI officials,by the CPIM,by opposition leaders. Its kind of become a joke or i would say a abit for workers to go on strikes, vandalize the airports.i am not into politics but I think what the govt.has done is for the good for both the passengers and the airport employess.when they have been pronmised on paper that they will not lose their jobs then why is there still the outrage.AAI again going on strike on the 17 -18 of aug.will this continue over the next 4-5 years too.GVK mumbai has been threatened against any move they do or theyll(employees) distrupt airport services.

so basically the question is will it actully happen.will india ever boast of a indian changi or a Klia. even here on a.nettersindia some members have already started criticizing the present temporary wrks of DIAL and MIAL. so wat exactly do we want.we all know that given the present infrastructure available both the companies cant do anything concrete except minor major cosmetic and operational changes like te ones we are seeing like new flooring tiles and a new facade but why do we instantly start criticizing on the new developments .its not adequate i agree but its better than what we had .we all know that a proper development can only take place after 3-4 yrs so why criticize starting now.this is just a general opinion.

Regards

Gaurav,

The points u raise are valid however pls don't compare India to city states and totalitarian countries. I was a PSU employee once upon a time and despise the culture there however strikes are not a Indian phenomenon every part of the western world with freedom for labour to carry out collective bargaining has to face this form of labour protests. It is very common in EU, especially France, Spain and Italy for airport, eurocontrol and airline employees to strike during the summer peak months. Let the new pvt operators learn to handle dissent.

Aside from the points you raise, i am pleased that the communist are having a go at running the calcutta airport with AAI as the preferred operators in collaboration with aeroport de paris. This will raise the stakes for all, including the pvt players who need to prove their novice capability.

the new airports will definitely be a reality... of being much better than they are...

the only thing being... unlike DEL where there is ample of space and options to go for the whole hog with the future plans.. BOM is more like a barter for time..... it can only go upto some extent..... theres no doubt that BOM will require an ALL NEW built from scratch mega airport eventually

Mel is concerned that if the airports shifts to NM, then he would need a new job....and his concerns and fears were put to rest, by myself by requesting him to assess the logistics i had submitted in that post.

well for one it wont be in the very near future as per my humble opinion... but he isnt the only one with those fears... for many of us who live townside and travel to Andheri to get to work... it'l be practically impossible for us to work at the new one...

but then again it'l be a long way off....mayb 5 years... and by then if things work out for me eventually... il be in alesium (spelling?) and wont need to bother with holding down my current job there ;)

Definately, its dangerous to add a parallel runway in BOM, the airport is slap bang in the middle of the city with dense residential area around it, its a miracle we haven't had a EL-AL AMS accident as yet, god bless. They will clear the slums to add more parking bays probably till The Navi Mumbai airport is up and running.
